Its official My YJ is now a Diesel!!!

She is up and running beautifully. We cranked her up this Sunday and took her for a test drive. I have driven her twice and everything is working perfectly. Me and the wife pulled the original engine Sunday the the 24th. I worked on her all week after work and got it finished yesterday. The installation was the easy part it took me a couple months to collect all the pieces and do all the research. I installed a cummins 4bt out of a frito lay truck. This engine is the exact same as the early dodge pickup if you subtract two cylinders. I mounted it to the original ax15 not by choice. My tranny was brand new and I hated to waist it. I totally Frankensteined my clutch. The parts list consist of, the pilot bearing is the original from my 4.2l, my pressure plate was deigned to go in a late model ford one ton, my throwout bearing came from a small block ford as did the bell housing, and I toped all that of with a center force clutch for a small block Chevy ( 11" with 10 spline ). Don't laugh to hard it works really well. This week it is getting a customed made back bumper. the soa lift and temporaly some 33's. I have included a few pics let me know what you think

This this is a whole new machine
have a good one and thanks for reading

I love seeing snails under the hood. It dont matter what you drive, Turbos just make life better. A turbo bolted to a diesel is just freakin sweeeeet. whats even sweeter is that yoru wife gets in on the action... Dude, you are my hero.

Who's Rubi and what does she look like.lol The low end torque is freekin awesome I have 308's and I can idle off in second gear.
It is awesome that she gets involved. She is a car nut as well she has an 05 gto and for her B day I bought her electronic cutouts, she is so excited. The only thing we have to argue about is who gets mods this month.lol

I'm soooooo jealous. I was a diesel in my Heep in the worst way.

Alas, it takes money to do that.

Didn't happen to save all those part numbers did you ? This would be a super upgrade for a 2.5L TJ or YJ. What about instruments ? The silly stuff like getting the key to get it to start and turn it off. How do you shut off a diesel....

I have all the part number however depending on the donor vehicle the part numbers will change. I would not attempt to run this engine with your tranny that came behind your 4 banger, I am taking a risk using my AX15. instruments are simple I installed all the sending units from the jeep into the cummins. With normal hardware store fittings. The tach is the only one that is going to cost you money you have two option's. First autometer makes a tach that attach's to the alternator. The other option is diablo makes a converter to were you can run the factory tach. The starter works the same as my factory one. I just used the wire from my original starter to operate the diesels solenoid. the injection pump works with one wire thats right just one wire. just find a wire that comes on with your key and wire it in. Seriously my engine runs with 3 wires the one that actuates the starter solenoid one to my Chevrolet one wire alternator and the other goes to the injection pump.

I'm actually looking at an 89 YJ with a bad motor and carter BBL POS, body and frame good, actually the whole thing is good, not a dent on it nor any rust, $800 so your mod got my attention. Any idea of the mileage yet ? is it possible it's over 25MPG ?.
The other question is heat with that turbo where it is but it for sure gets rid of the crossover pipe

it is defiantly possible to get over 25 i have not had a chance to check mpg b/c it is down getting an soa and 33's now. I mounted the engine low in the bay to help with drive train pitches. So i only got to test drive the jeep after i finished the engine due to the engine weight. I beefed up my front springs today. motor mounts were also an issue being to close to the front axle.
