I'd love to get off the beaten path and hit some nice wooded, scenic trails, but I haven't any interest in rock crawling or serious offroading.

I drive my YJ every day and will continue to do so until I have the funds to get another Jeep or a towing vehicle to make the YJ into a rock crawler. But as far as breaking stuff goes I'm not too worried, I wheel it usually once a week and just make sure that everything is nice and tight before I go out. As long as you're prepared and don't go in over your head then there's nothing to worry about.

I'm buying mine to be my daily driver and I agree with Con Artist
My present DD is a 01 3/4 ton dodge 4x4 with 130k miles on it and it will be my backup vehicle for hauling trash to the dump or trailering my V-nose sled/motorcycle trailer. My Wife drives a 05 Avalanche that we use on the wekends BUT I know already the Jeep will now be our main vehicle we use when we go out

My LJ has been my DD since new, but I'm saving up to buy some sort of sports car to use most of the time (I work from home, so either way I really don't drive much).

I was a weekend warrior when my jeep was my only vehicle for many many years. Broken axles on Saturday, driving to work again by Monday.

There were a few times when I couldn't have it working again by the time Monday rolled around. Friends and family help out in those case. Other times, taxis. ha. Jeeps, one way or another bring friends and family closer together.

I bought mine as my only vehicle so it's a daily driver, I don't go off roading but I do take road trips down country roads once a week. I'm not worried about any troubles with it.

My 2008 is semi DD and don't spend much time off the highway. Bought my first extended warrantee when new cause The had unlimited time and milage special at the time. Soon to be retired and plan on keeping it a long long time and this should come in handy.

As long as Chrysler is still around!!!

My 06 LJ is my DD and has been the last 10 months i have had her. I used to drive 50 miles round trip to work but now i am not working so not so many miles at the moment. I dont hesitate to take her offroad. I have been to the mud bog a couple of times. I have spent 4 hours laying on the ground underneath her with a pressure washer to get all the mud off of her. We just bought a house that is literaly 15 feet from the entrance to the powerlines. But on another note i did own a blazer and was rear ended and it put a 3 inch black mark on my bumper but my trailer hitch destroyed the other car even busted the radiator. The state trooper fussed me out for having it in i responded Oh well they should have been paying attention to what was in front of them. ha

LSixer, Don't forget to replace the pics with license plate numbers and house number on that mail box - thieves are going to be looking for you, now. I always edit my photos to hide addresses and plates, or reposition the camera so the information doesn't show up. Do NOT mention that you're going on a trip beforehand. I never announce my intentions.

I bought my 2012 in March as a third car. My wife (who only drives locally and never highway) has a Camry and I have a Corolla. I also have two Harleys, an Electroglide and a Sportster. I use the Corolla to work on weekdays as it's usually bumper to bumper and the Corolla is automatic. I use the jeep when I know there won't be much traffic. I'd love to use the jeep for vacation trips but the lack of trunk space when the family uses the back seat let's that out.

The vehicles are no longer there. I moved a year and a half ago. However, thank you for the concern.

The current owners may have something worth stealing though.

For those of you who have a jeep as a main car, do you ever worry about it getting damaged? Repairs are usually kind of easy to get done, but can be expensive if you aren't making a whole lot

My jeep is my only car and Im rather young (in college), so obviously I'm worried about keeping it in good condition in case I want to sell it within the next 10 years, but I also really love going off road. It's hard to bulk up the courage to take it to the trails in case paint chips and Im screwed. I love my jeep though, and I can't see myself driving anything but a jeep, so if I ever do sell it, it'd be to get a new one just like it
I have both. My 98 TJ sits out in a vacation house only to be used on the weekends because my dad has a truck for work. My 04 LJ is my daily driver and I wouldn't drive anything else. I keep up with maintenance and keep it clean. My theory is if I take care of it it will take care of me. I put 27,000 miles on the LJ in a year (i'm 17). Our TJ averages about 1,500 miles a year and gets a fluid change once a year. We will hit the rocks with some worry but only because we worry about the drive home. Once we get home we can fix the Jeep.

Mine is basically my weekend toy, though I think I will start driving it more...to see if the damn ticking starts up.

I like driving it but I prefer driving my V8 4Runner on pavement and dirt roads/mild trails. My Subaru is my commuter due to the MPG. I mainly got the Rubi for trails, though I don't plan on turning it into a rock crawler.

When the trails turn rough, the Jeep is at home so that is where I primarily let it play.

My Jeep is my main vehicle. It's pretty inconvenient right now though. It's currently down due to DW but it should be back up in a few days. Luckily I was able to borrow a vehicle in the mean time. I have a 2008 Ford Explorer too and when I say I have a 08 Explorer I mean I have the car payment and the wife has the vehicle heh

Both of our DDs are Jeeps. Mine is a 99 TJ, hers is a 87 Grand Wagoneer. I avg about 60 miles per day, she does probably 25. Both get comparable mileage.

My Jeep (or whatever 4 wheeled vehicle I have at the time) is my DD in the winter. In the summer I alternate between the Jeep and my motorcycles.

If it is your DD, always expect that if you are going to play in the Jeep, something will break. You need to ask yourself if you can afford to lose it for a few days while it's fixed, and if you can afford the repairs.

I'm not in anyway stating that it WILL break if you go out and play, but always expect the worse, and know ahead of time what the possible consequences/repercussions would be IF it breaks.

Two of the most important pieces of recovery gear I have are; a cell phone and a credit card...

I'm about to go to college, and I just bought an '05 unlimited as my only car. But hell, I bought the thing WITH the intention of beating it up. I really don't intend to sell it until it's just plain dead, and no, I'm not trying to break it. (I can't afford to fix it) But if I wanted a nice car to keep in good condition, I would've gotten something more practical. Why own a Jeep if you're not going to use it to its full potential?
