Jeep broken in to. Considering Tuffy console?

So, I came home to the sight of everything in my center console thrown across my jeep. It was the original plastic center console that came on my 1995. They smashed the lock in, and broke the latch. Even ripped the door of the hinges of the console.

So, I was considering replacing it with a Tuffy console. I would post this in the YJ section, but I just wanna hear opinions on the Tuffy's quality, and whether it's worth it.

I felt kind of violated, because my Jeep was parked at my house when it happened. I really don't want to deal with it again.

Deluxe Stereo Security Console by Tuffy and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH3

That is what I'm considering. Thoughts?

I have a Tuffy center console and I love it. It's a ton stronger than the stock console.

If only I was home when it happened.

For home security I prefer the Remington 870 Express Magnum

But, I'm leaning towards the Tuffy. I'd like to see some pictures of it if anyone has one.

I have one of these Security Stereo Floor Console by Smittybilt and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH2, and I love it. It is strong and a decent price. Mine has a dark gray pad on top though.

Yes, Tuffy makes good stuff. I've got the glove box for holding my pistol when I can't take it with me.

I've had 2 Tuffy boxes. The first one was the YJ overhead dual compartment for stereo equipment. I had that one forever and other than having to lube the hinges every once in a while I never had a problem with it. The second one is the one I mentioned above. These things last forever. When I redo my dash I'll be getting the Tuffy glovebox too.

I only have the soft top for mine so I just leave the doors unlocked and keep absoloutely nothing inside the vehicle. A locked center console is an idiot magnet, really only going to keep the "honest" criminals out.

Ya that must be really cumbersome in an emergency situation to have to take the gun out of the hard case, pop out the magazine, grab the clip from the glove box, load the rounds off the clip into the mag then pop the mag back into the gun.

If it's any consolation, here in Canada we also have to transport pistols in a locked box. Yet it's perfectly legal for me to drive around with my rifle sitting on the passenger seat with a loaded mag in my hand.

It is expensive, but I feel that it's worth it. It's a real crappy feeling having someone break into your vehicle and destroy something. I'd rather it not happen again.

Oh I know that feeling. Had someone bust a window in my car and steal a bunch of CDs. It's a sickening feeling.

The thought of them wondering around on my property turns my stomach a bit too.

I'm moving up to Cleveland, which makes me nervous too (I live here now, but I don't keep the jeep up here, but will have it here soon). That's why I'm willing to spend the extra dough on the tuffy console. Cleveland is pretty rough, and I live right next to the worst part of it. Couple weeks ago someone was shot a couple streets down, a car was stolen, and someone attempted to steal someones car at a stop light.

The reasons mentioned above, and my jeep being broken in to are why I'm going to get my concealed weapon permit.

You need to transfer. Pittsburgh is a great area, and you don't have to fear for your life getting to the mailbox.

I have the Tuffy glove box. It is easy to install and super sturdy. Although it can fit everything I need I still want the center console for more storage. I feel your pain about the price for the console though... this is why I compromised on the glove box.

Pittsburgh also doesn't have the Cleveland Institute of Art, which is a great art school.

Haha, it's not that bad. I live on campus currently, and it's secure. I'm moving about 15 minutes away, and it's not to bad there. It's just the east side that scares me. Every single store on the east side has bullet proof glass at the register.....
