Jeep Turbo/supercharger

Ok so i have a 94 yj with the 2.5. Ihave a 4.5 stroker sitting in my garage waiting on a few odds and ends and then the long install. My question is i read somewhere of someone doing a DIY turbo on there 2.5,If i could find the write up would this be worth it. Also on ebay for 30 bucks they sell an electronic supercharger thats activted by a switch would that be worth it or is it a bunch of bs. And Lastly should i just say screw it and just buck up and put the 4.5 in? The main reason i would keep the 2.5 longer and put a turbo or that supercharger on there is to save on gas and get a little more passing power on the highway........These are probably dumb but i figured i'd ask.

Electric superchargers are snake oil.

Bolting on a turbo charger probably will get you extra horsepower, but I doubt that it will increase your fuel economy. With a proper turbo upgrade, you need engine management, more fuel and a higher octane... the little extra power you get might not be worth it... especially in a YJ. Plus I don't think the 2.5 you have has a turbo manifold available unlike the 2.4 from the TJ's(Neon).

Uhh. I would kind of like to disagree with the idea that you will lose mileage by putting on a turbo. There are some magazine articles that I've read that say the opposite. The catch here is..if your in the boost all the time....Ya your mileage will suffer.
But higher octane and colder air from the intercooler will only increase efficiency. As for the amount of fuel being injected, it will only be more if your pushing harder on the skinny pedal. The amount of fuel being injected needs to be in relation to the amount of air coming in. Thats where the fuel management comes into play. When the turbo spools up and starts forcing air in through the intake, the fuel management system will tell the injectors to push more fuel. But if your not in the boost range, your not getting more air and therefore aren't getting more fuel.
You will need to either change injectors or increase your fuel pressure with a walbro fuel pump depending on the size of the turbo and the amount of boost you'll be running. For your application you should be able to get by with just a fuel pump and regulator for the fuel part of it.
As for the cost v.s. benefit....who knows, but who knows why we do anthing to our jeeps. For fun I guess. I'd like to see a turbo jeep. Try stopping by one of the local U-tune em honda/nissan shops and ask them about fuel efficiency and turbo charging and building turbo manifolds.
