Jeepster

Im looking at a 48 Jeepster for a project. I have only seen pics so far, the owner doesnt seem to know much.

A few questions:

1. Its 4wd, I thought the early Jeepsters were 2wd.
2. No top, was a hardtop offered or just a soft top.
3. Are parts available, trim, seat frames, instruments ect?

Is it a worthwhile project or should I look for a CJ?

I thought the 40's-50's jeepsters were 2wd only because they were marketed as a car, a roadster and they were based on the 2wd jeep wagon platform. They briefly brought back the jeepster in the late 60's I think, and those were 4wd. 40's-50's era jeepsters would be soft top only, with side curtains! Interestinly enough, they had a 3sp manual trans with an automatically engaging overdrive 4th gear.

Really cool jeep for tooling around town but for anything else get a 4wd vehicle.
