I wave every time ...but I live in the DC area where people are inherently (unfortunately) unfriendly and unaware of their surroundings. I've have two people who wave back ...I think we're becoming commuter friends who've never met.

You just can't shake the friendly out of a Midwest farm boy.

Here in Cincy, I rarely get a response wave.

My observation, I usually got waves from other Jeepers when I had my old TJ.

4 Door Jeepers are the worst... I guess they don't get it, or they think they are not part of the team, since 4 doors have only had a short existence...

It should start at the dealership. When I bought my first Jeep in 2000, the salesman said, "Don't forget the wave."

I don't think some/most Jeep salesmen sell the Jeep lifestle...?

Just my observation...

Best,

BB

Silverfun

As a new Jk owner i always wave and admire other jeeps.
I agree with alot of people who say the 4 door jeeps don't wave but i wave anyway hoping they catch on. I don't think new Jk owners know about the wave and i knew about it because some of my friends have jeeps and they told me about it. Jeep owners are the most fun and heplful people around !!!!
Hey RedWrangler i am up your way a lot so expect a wave from a silver JK !

I have gotten to the point that I wait for the JK to wave first then I'll return with a wave. No more waving first to JK's.

Procedural question for the experts: Are we required to give "the wave" on divided highways?

Silverfun, I'll be keeping an eye out for you.

Knotty, I don't think it's a requirement thing, more of a brotherhood/sisterhood show of respect. If you see another jeep, anything from an old MJ or CJ up to a JK even the 4 doors, I say wave at him/her. My wave is usually just a lifting of the left fingers from the top of the wheel, but anyone looking sees it. If you get one back, great. If not, it's the other driver's loss, as he just doesn't get it, and as we all know, once you get it, you've got it.

Oh I understand that affinity thing RW. It's just if I can't see the guy pickin' his nose it's unlikely he'll see my wave eh? The wife can't figure me out when I say there's a Jeep comin' the other way at night. "How do you know?" "Look at the headlights dear!"

I have to admit I've missed a few, not many. It's something we do on the boat all the time too! When we're out in the IROC we wave at other third gen Camaro's & Firebirds. We usually get one back but not always.

I waved at a cop last summer when I was out rippin' around in the IROC. He swung around and pulled me over and said "Thanks and have a nice day!" "You too Officer!" We had a pleasant 10 minute conversation about the ole' IROC and parted ways. As much as we generally dislike our encounters (usually when we're misbehavin') with them I do appreciate what it is they do.

The Wave

Every Jeep owner in my town waves at each other. My wife thought it was the strangest thing that other Jeep owner would wave or just come up and say "hi" in a parking lot.
We sure are a friendly bunch.

New to Jeeping here, but I've been waving. After riding motorcycles and driving a MINI Cooper, I'm used to waving, but it's a rare thing to have a wave returned. I just wave automatically and don't care if people wave back. If they do, great. If they don't, their loss, right?

I waved at a lady in a parking lot on the weekend driving a new Jeep. She turned around and drove up to me and asked if I knew her. I said no and she asked then why did you wave. Told her most Jeep owners wave at each other. That explains it she said. I'm always getting other Jeep drivers waving at me and I didn't know why, lol. Now that she knows she is going to wave at everybody.

I'm also new to Jeeping, and I witnessed my first wave while riding with my friend. There is something magical about the wave.
