Just wanted to post a repair I did on my 07 JK. The outer coating at the top of my steering wheel came off, probably due to excessive contact to sunscreen on my hands.
Sanded the excess with coarse sponge sanding block. Did a little more fine sanding w/ 180 grit paper. Wiped down the steering wheel w/ alcohol and painted w/ a small, flat paint brush I bought @ walmart from the crafts section. The paint I used was a paint designed to paint leather shoes. I got it online from Gourd Supplies | Craft Supplies
. I used mostly black w/ dark grey blended and got close enough. After it dried I used fine sand paper and sealed it w/ his acrylic finisher. Looks fantastic. $20 worth of paint and finisher saved me several hundred to replace the wheel and I don't have to lace up a cover to hide it. Very pleased w/ result.
