There has been several Magazine articles lately about swapping small Diesels into jeeps, I think they were using small Cummins out of Forklifts...
I don't see why a JD wouldn't do the job as long as you could adapt to the Trans/transfer case...
I don't know what a JD weighs, you would in my opinion have to swap in a D 60 front axle to handle the weight up front, along with springs of coarse. Springs you could have wound, thats no problem as long as you know how much weight you have.
