Just a courtesy "Heads Up" for the forum...

OK, I'm not one to bitch about customer service on a public forum, but I think I need to say something. I'm not here to talk a bunch of trash; I just want my brothers and sisters of WF to know what's going on with JC Whitney. I've been going round and round with them about my Bestop Header Bikini Top for my Jeep. When I first ordered it, they sent me the Bestop Duster. Wrong answer. So I called and told them they had made a mistake and that I REALLY needed that bikini as fast as possible. They said "Sorry, but unless you want to order it again (and pay for it again), we have to wait until we receive the Duster before we can send you the Bikini." OK, so I understand that a little bit. They don't want to get ripped off. Got it. So they had FedEx come and pick it up. Two weeks later I still haven't received the Bikini, so I call them. They say that unless I have the FedEx tracking number, they can't tell me where the package is in transit. I tell them..."It's been two weeks, you can't tell me that the returned Duster hasn't arrived".......I end up on hold for 20 minutes. I know....I counted. Then they tell me that yes, their return department has just received it. I call BS on that. I know it was sitting there for over a week without anyone doing anything with it. So they say they'll get the bikini out to me as soon as possible. Right. That was 10 days ago. I call them today and they have NO IDEA what I'm talking about when I call them and ask them where my bikini top is. They say..."Did you order a bikini?" Uhhhhhh yep, sure did. A couple of times, lady. She says to me..."I have no record of you ordering a bikini, but I show on my computer that you ordered then returned a Bestop Duster." Nope. At this point, I just want some recoil in my shoulder, but know that's not the answer to my problem. I ask her at this point in my very painful phonecall "Have you shipped my top or not? If not, then credit my account and cancel the order." She says "We don't have any record of your ordering the top so I can't credit your account." Then she notices an amount for $61.99 (the price of the top!!!) with no item number next to it. I say "THAT'S MY DAMN TOP!!! Now credit my account!"

She credited my account.

So I just ordered the same top from Amazon.com for $6 more, but I trust Amazon.

Here's the deal.....I'm not saying "Don't waste your money buying anything from JC Whitney", I'm just saying to beware of what you're getting into when ordering from them. If you need something in a hurry.....I would NOT recommend them. If it isn't a big deal when you get it, then what the hell, it's free shipping if you spend more than $75 with them.
I know some of you others have had problems with them in the past and just wanted to give everyone a heads up about their customer service.

Thanks for reading this little novella.

Rant finished.

Have a good weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they can't note your account when you call about an issue, then you have to wonder how the pass information. Stickie notes?

I've ordered a few things from them, but I've found smaller shops on the net (DPG, northridge, 4x4rockshop, that carry a lot of the same stuff I want/need for a comparable price, or even lower. I'll generally do business with them first. JCW and Q-tec are my final resorts if I really need something, esp for Bestop stuff - it is pretty standard pricing wherever you look.

Thanks for the heads up. I hate crap like that. You should send a nasty-gram to someone in their management, and maybe they will work on their CS.

I've thought about doing that. I'm not one to send back a steak or bitch about much, but some things just need to be brought up to management....if only to save some other customer this headache.

This is the problem with national mail order parts houses. They deal in so much volume, I'm surprised if anyone ever gets their product. So many hands actually touch your order that the chances of a screw up exponentially increase by the minute.

That's why i stay local for everything possible. Shops like Absolute, DPG, Northridge, etc......work with wholesalers and thru accounts of their own depending on their size. These guys are treated much better by the big houses because of the amount of business they do. Give them a shot next time you need something and I bet when it's all said and done you pay about the same and get your product when you want it.

Oh, and I'm moving this to General as it is wheeling/wrenching related.

Nothing is wrong with Qtech, they actually have their own warehouses, one just outside of philly where you can call ahead, place your order and go pick it up. The other one is out near Harrisburg but I have never been to that one so I don't know if you can do the same.
I don't think JC actually has a warehouse anymore, I think almost all their stuff is drop ship but don't hold me to that. I think they are more of an order taker clearing house now that works with a bunch of other warehouses.

i never said ANYTHING was wrong with quadratec.. but 888 might say other wise =p

my ex's dad never had a problem with jcwhitney or quadratec.. i just like when i call to order parts, the person on the other line actually KNOWS about what i need and what will work with what im doing..

heck first time i ever called dirk up at dpg.. we were on the phone for about an hour talking about how im going to build my jeep up & ect.. he knew that i wanted to go bigger later on so he made sure the parts i bought off him weren't just gonna be taken off when i do go bigger.. although the only thing he didnt want to sell me was my jks acos because he said they were a waste of money and i was 19 when i bought them.. but hey i like to spoil my jeep =D

When you pull into quadratec's parking lot you could do like 2 or 3 years of modified jeep calendars with the rigs in the parking lot. I think a good portion of the people who work there belong to Blue Mountain Jeep Alliance. I know that I've had a few things brought to meetings which is handy.
