Just throwing this out there.

I get sick of seeing people refer to their dealer as the stealership. If you don't like them, don't go there. If you're not going to stop, treat them with a little respect. I just think it's complete ignorance that people feel ripped off by the dealer because someone else paid $100 less that they did. Plus if your machine is out of warranty, why should the dealer or manufacturer pay to fix it? You were offered the extended warranty and too much of a tight a$$ to take it. So don't bitc$ when it breaks out of warranty. Even if it's just a week out. You would be mad if you sold your Jeep to someone and a week later they call you and tell you that you are responsible for the engine going out and that you are going to pay. That's my .02

Why should poor planning on your part, constitute a problem on my part?

I understand your feelings on the issue, but don't get too sick about it...

I believe the term "stealership" is more "symbolic" then the real verbatim.. Same can be said in PC related forums where posters refer to Microsoft as M$..

Be nice to your dealer and last but not least be prepared to engage into a technical discussion...This Forum might be a good "proving ground" to gain some knowledge before going to your "favorite" dealer.. .

I am also convinced that, in today's environment, only the better dealerships will survive..
Just a "humble" response...

The Jeep is the only american vehicle I will every buy after the Multi Billion Dollar Rip The Tax Payer Fiasco. I am originally from Michigan, but at this point I have lost any and all respect for these companies. Why a Jeep then? Because it is a Jeep. As far as respect toward auto companies [GM Chrysler] and thier stealerships....................

The term stealership is because most dealers are more than willing to rip everyone off.

there were two Jeep dealerships in my area one had a small but well run business, with a good service dept, (that is where I bought my Jeep) the other was high pressure, and sold their Jeeps for several thousand more.

The average person, being an idiot, falls for the BS and willing pays the extra. Because of this the decent, fair dealership was forced out of business by Chrysler.

So all I have left to go to for repairs on my "life time warranty" is a stealership, and I will call them a stealership as much as I like. I have no choice but to go to the only stealership in the area. But of course if you don't like it to see the word stealership, you know you don't have to read the posts here.

Face it the "dealerships don't have a very good reputation. I'm sure that there are those out there that are sincere in dealing with their clients. I just haven't found one around here. I did buy the extended warranty and for that reason, I am afraid to make any mods to my rig. As it stands now, everything that I have taken to the service dept has either not been under warranty (note I purchased a bumper to bumper warranty) or I have been told that if they cannot replicate the problem, they can not investigate or diagnos it. I have had to seek legal advice to get problems taken care of. So my animosity toward the stealership I feel is well deserved. Sorry if that offends you. I used to think that I was getting that treatment because I am female, but I have learned by talking to other Jeep owners (male and female) that they are not biased as to which sex they try to rip off.

I think I can talk about this from the point of "been there, ripped em off" as I had a part time job selling cars at one of our local dealers here. I won't say the name because there were at the time I was there some decent, up front people that would deal on the up & up with buyers. The vast majority tho were high pressure, lie thru their teeth con artist trying to make a deal & get the $$$ on a bonus sale. I personally saw a guy come in with an 06 Shelby Mustang, immaculate with 18k and he wanted to trade in on an SUV. The blue book on his car was something like 21-25k. His car was also paid for so anything they could have sold it for would have been clear profit for the dealership. The "Stealer" he was working with got the trade-in value of 22k but the management told him to offer the guy 17k. When the guy told them they were nuts that was when the "let me talk to my manager and see if I can get some more $$ for you" started. Of course he came back with the "my managers feeling good about this, wants to make a deal blah blah blah and is willing to go to 19k. The guy said to stuff it and left. The point I'm trying to get to here is that if the guy would have gone for this "DEAL" then the extra 3-5k of his trade in value would have gone to the dealer as a bonus for getting the sale. The incentive is there that if you can low ball the customer into taking the deal most all will give the surplus trade in value to you as a "bonus" That is why most dealers are so quick to "let me talk to the manager" I had a lady come in and told me EXACTLY the truck she was looking for, what she wanted on it and what she was willing to pay. My manager told me that she did not know what the hell she was looking for and to sell her what we had on the lot (which was NOT what she wanted) She came in looking to buy a 42k truck as a retirement present for herself and they wouldn't even give me the ok to look for it at another dealer even tho dealers trade vehicles all the time. I told her that they were trying to rip her off, recommended she go to another dealer and see my friend who would treat her right and I quit the next day. I tried to be fair and honest with people but the managent was geared to "get as much and give as little as they can" Just couldn't do it and look myself in the mirror knowing I had ripped someone off to make a buck.

Having worked for 2 dealerships in the service department, and having been a commercial customer catching more than one dealership trying to pad repair bills, I think "stealership" is well earned.
If dealerships and those that work for them don't like the term then they are the only ones with the responsibility and ability to clean up their reputation.

Sorry if this offends, but I'm gonna stick with, "Stealership"! I've purchased 30 vehicles (4-Wheels and 2-Wheels) over the last 35 years. 99.999% of the folks I have dealt with, were out for my $$$, and not giving a hoot whether I left a Happy Customer or not. After the SALE, you're the Service Departments Problem. Therefore, it's up to the Buyer to get the best possible deal that they can.

Case in point: The last time I went to buy a Chevy Truck in 2000, it was quite embarrassing..... for the Stealership! Their cubicles were glass, and no privacy walls. You could see from one office to another. The kid that was my Sales Rep was new. I gave them the figures I wanted for my Trade, and the Price (Less 10% off of the MSRP Sticker) I was offering for their Truck. Then the "Let me check with my Manager!", game started. He buzzed the Sales Manager on the intercom, and asked if he could come in. He looked up, and the Sales Manager was waving him over to the Sales Office, in the middle (Hub) of the Cubicle Wheel. The kid walked into the office, where the Sales Manager and another Sales Rep were talking about last nights game. "MY" Sales Rep joined the conversation. After about 5 minutes of discussing last nights game, my Sales Rep came back over to his cube, where I was sitting. He handed me the Work Sheet that the Sales Manager had scribbled on, and they were trying to Low-Ball me on my Trade (that I bought from them 5 years earlier...), and weren't going to meet my Offering Price. Laughing inside to myself... I asked the kid to go back, and ask the Sales Manager if he would throw in a Bed Liner, that I would Sign the Papers now! Same scenerio as before. The kid walks into the Office, and more Game-Time is discussed, but not one word is discussed about the Bed Liner request. The kid comes back, and says I'll have to pay Retail. Laughing to myself harder this time, I ask him to go back and ask one more time, if the Sales Manager will go 50/50 on the Bed Liner, that I'll Sign NOW!!! The kid heads to the office for the final round. Same thing... Game Time discussed, and no talk about the Bed Liner. He comes back and says, Full Retail! I tell him to hang on for just a second, and I walk over to the Sales Managers Office, and knock on his glass door. He waves me in, and as soon as I get in, I lean over the Managers desk, look towards my Sales Rep sitting in his Cube, and yell into the Desk Phone... "YOU'VE HAD YOUR INTERCOM ON SINCE THE FIRST TIME YOU CAME IN HERE! MUST HAVE BEEN ONE HELL OF A GAME LAST NIGHT, BECAUSE THAT'S ALL YOU TWO HAVE DISCUSSED SINCE I'VE BEEN HERE! THINK I'LL GO NEXT DOOR AND SEE IF FORD KNOWS HOW TO TURN OFF THEIR INTERCOM!"..... and I walked out!

STEALERSHIP!!!

I had a great Jeep dealership...family owned...some real Jeep guys working in the garage...honest and friendly...even after the warranty had passed...their rates wern't much higher than a private garage but they had the experience to diagnose your problem in a quarter of the time...I would have bought all my vehicles from these guys for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, they ran into a ton of warranty issues on Jeeps over the past couple years and the factory wouldn't support their customers...lots of games and denied claims. Apparently it became too much for them so they sold the franchise last year. Bummer. Now they sell only Toyotas. I expect that most of their customers will make the switch just because of the way they treat their customers. I'm bummed because now I had to buy my Jeeps from a new dealership...a really big, 10 brand, mega-dealership...I have trouble trusting these guys...too impersonal...you don't actually meet the "owner" of the place...you won't see him in church on Sunday...he's not worried about running into you in a restaurant on a Friday night...his kids don't play baseball with yours...that might be a stealership...too soon to know...but I'm watching...

Anyone that has worked at a STEALERSHIP, or knows anyone that has, knows exactly why they have earned that description. Perhaps this is just another sleezy sales tactic to increase the sale of extended warranties??? Are you serious, posting this crap up on a Jeep forum where the "warranty" the STEALERSHIPS offer have just about the same reputation as the STEALERSHIPS offering them?

But the dealer is working within the guideline that Jeep themselve is giving. Anymore dealers are working with such tight profit margins, throw ins are hard to squeeze. Whenever the dealer says it's not a warranty issue, that's Jeeps guidelines not the dealers. Trust me, I have first hand insight in both Jeep and a tougher industry.

I assume you do all maintenance and repairs on your jeep yourself..Good for you..

I'm happy with the deal I got on my jeep, and the deal I got when Chrysler bought that one back and I got my second (I can't talk about the details so don't ask). I've purchased several cars new from several dealers in the area. All but two of them advised me properly about the service on the vehicle after the purchase. Generally speaking, they wanted to "over service" the vehicles. I've gotten so used to it, I just walk in to the service department with my owners manual and let them know what I want done to it. No more over-servicing. I even had one dealership tell me that I can't be on schedule A because of: at the latitude I live at because it is too cold in the winter. A quick call to Chrysler to verify this had Chrysler calling the dealer to ask what the hell they were doing. The dealer quickly back peddled and said something different. I think it is up to the customer to read the fine print on contracts and get an overview of the required maintenance. Then hold your dealership up to being honest even if they try and make an extra buck. I figure, they wouldn't try if more customers understood what they were getting. OR you could just get a Toyota or Honda and probably not have to deal with those issues because they actually pride themselves (and publish) the maintenance costs associated with their vehicles. That being said, I bought the jeep because I really wanted to do off roading and thought it to be the best for that purpose. Buyer be ware. Stick to your guns. Move on to the next dealer if the one you visited doesn't demonstrate at least some honesty. My dealership has demonstrated that they are willing to listen to what I have to say. They know I won't beat around the bush, I am direct and to the point. That is probably why they listen so well.

Every Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler STE-Dealership in the greater metropolitan area of Portland (OR) has been shut down and turned into a parts/service warehouse. The nearest dealership is in another state. Meaning if anything were to happen to my drivetrain which is the only thing possibly covered under warranty (and in all likely-hood won't be because of the mods ive done) it would need to be towed there.

I used to have the liberty to call them the stealership when I wanted OEM parts shipped to me from the manufacturer, now i can't even call them that! it's a s*** head bonanza where all the legitimate hard working employees of Jeep have been relocated to states that actually have functioning dealerships. I'm left with a bunch of second-rate technical school mechanics with NO JEEP EXPERIENCE.

I called the only 3 "dealerships" in my area when my transfer case pin and bushing exploded on the trail when I was switching it (properly, just like the manual says) from 4lo to 4hi. When I asked why the hell I was stuck in 4hi with my swaybar disconnected 80 miles from the nearest dealership they told me NONE of their service employees had ANY idea what had gone wrong and I was SOL.

Eventually I was referred to a 4x4 repair place and had no choice but to drive the 60 miles in 4hi with the swaybar disconnected at highway speeds, and then still had to wait 2 days for my 2.95 pin and bushing to arrive from the same POS dealership that I had called in the first place and had to pay $108 for labor when all of this SHOULD have been covered by my non-functioning x-stealership parts distributors that no longer deliver to local businesses.....

Good story! But I still stand behind the guy that takes the low ball deal and lets the dealer get over on them is the real loser. You can't steal what someone is handing you! Right? Plus it's just like when one of you or even I, you always start high before lowering your price. Everybody here is just as guilty as the dealer. They just have the capital to do it on a bigger level.

My pin didn't break off but the bushing did. They cost me $.60 each. After the warranty repair, I got 3 of them and put them into the glove box. Next time I'm in the middle of nowhere, I'm not going to call Chrysler Roadside Assistance, have the tow truck driver arrive, laugh at me, then go away, have it towed by a chevy truck (how embarrassing) to a parking lot, wait four more hours for the tow truck to return, get pissed, crawl under the jeep and temporarily hook up the linkage, manage to get it into 2wd and then drive it to the dealer....no...I'm just gonna crawl under it and replace that littler sucker myself.

Everyone calls them stealerships. But answer this question. What would you do if Chrysler would close their doors indefinetly?

How's this? I bought my last 2 jeeps used. I go to the stealership when I need warranty work and for the (very) occasional part I can't get/don't want from aftermarket.

My local dealerships are divided into 3 major departments: Sales (stick the fork in em), service and parts. Service for warranty work is ok as if they eff it up, I can get it re-done or take it somewhere else. Otherwise, what an endurance test. Parts is the same story.

I'll do my own work thank you and avoid the stealership when I can. When I can't, I fully expect to get miss-treated and overcharged.

Thats what I pray for, no more government bail outs and no more bulls***. Have the corporations keep their parts infrastructure, disband the separate companies back to their original forms (someone who has the capital would flat out BUY the company) Jeep will be JEEP, NOT Jeep/daimler/chrysler/mercedes. I could walk into a JEEP dealership where they ONLY sell and service JEEPS. Yes people will lose jobs initially and it would be one hell of a financial cluster**** but after the dust settled R&D, new products, quality, and customer care would really be the only concern an auto-company would have.

There wouldn't be the issue of chrysler didnt sell enough chryslers this year and dodge lost them 75% of profits for the year so they can't properly service and sell their Jeeps. Companies would actually be fiscally responsible for only themselves and not a greater conglomerate.
