Kept this Jeep, didnt buy this one...am I an idiot???

I bought a dark blue 94 Jeep wrangler the other day. it has 135,000 miles, clean interior, brand new top (used 1 time) new shocks, and clutch. The jeep runs good and looks good from 5 ft away. The paint shines however it has a few spots on the hood that look like dried milk about the size of a dime. The rest of the jeep has a scratch here and there. I dont think it was ever really off roaded, probally just a trail here and there. I got it for $3500 which is pretty cheap in NC.

I was offered $4500 for it the next day. I was all about selling it because I could take the profit and but a white 93 Wrangler that looks 95% new with the same miles and a new top. this jeep was $4800, but the seller said he would sell it for $4400. A much better looking Jeep since it looked new!

I decided to keep the blue one and try to get it looking better, the paint buffed up nice (still chips, scrathes etc...) I dont know why because I am anal about my vehicles! Am I an idiot? the pictures are the actual vehicles.

Gorgeous!!! I think you made a good decision to keep the blue one, aesthetically speaking. Besides, the white one will end up with "flaws" anyway.

Where in NC are you? I am in Burlington.

I don't think you made a mistake unless the white one had far fewer miles on it. Don't second guess yourself just because someone offered you more than you paid for it. That just means the PO under valued it.

They both look like fine YJ's, if you're happy with your decision then you aren't an idiot.. You'd have only ended up pocketing $100 and that would have likely been eaten by sales tax, (it would in Indiana). So, no loss on your part really. Enjoy your new obsession and don't forget to wave!

same miles, the white ones paint was almost perfect where the blue one is not. I could have the hood painted and it would look waaaay better. but the paint is not that bad, i dont think anyone would repaint it for a few spots.

Blue is good. Something about a white vehicle reminds me of an egg.

IMO unless you plan on keeping the jeep packed in a bubble with moth balls a few little blemishes are nothing. Its a jeep not a show/collector car. Just think how much more relaxed you will be down the road when you do take it off roading and get a few little trail badges. Face it......its gonna happen. Now take the $ you saved fill up the tank and go drive your new baby.

I have to remind myself of this quite often...as my Jeep's paint is far from perfect...and I am slightly anal retentive...

LOL! I'm still bumming over the badges I got the last time out, and we are planning on going again Sunday, so, I'll end up with stripes on top of stripes..... I feel so guilty, but there's no way on earth I'm going out there and buffing them out now, just to have to do it again next week...

I think they both look great. It is most important that the engine, etc run well. Great paint is nice but starting up and running every time is the thing that counts.
Every time I buy a vehicle I checked the net for the next few weeks if there is a better deal out there. I would not recommend that - it is inevitable that one day - when you already have your Jeep and do not need to buy - there is what seems to be "one." Then you'll end up mad. Trust me, I know from experience (not this time - yet). In the end you probably never look at the other vehicle that closely to really discover its flaws. Work with what you have and be happy with it.

Did they both have the same engine and trans? If so, I think the blue is the keeper and you made the right decision. They both fix up the same in the end.

I've been pondering the permafix for this "mostaline" the entire jeep...

but the wife says its ugly....I disagree, but I'm a bit touched. (or so I'm told)

My hubby was incredibly worried about scuffing the paint on the freaking bolts when we took the doors off this week.

I looked at him as if he had lost his mind. All I could muster up was, "Really? You do realize it is a Jeep, don't you?"

Like the sticker I had on my first Jeep, "ITS NOT A SCRATCH, ITS A SCAR."

The blue Jeep is awsome. Way better than the white one. The blue Jeep came with those vinyl seats, or aftermarket? All she needs is some nice rims and tires. Good luck with her.

You bought the jeep, not the paint job. We drove two jeeps. The first one was 1999 Wrangler, one owner, 33k actual miles, almost perfect; dealer had a high sticker price and would not budge. Our second one was 2002 Sahara, well taken care of, 110k miles, road driven, started out as a rental. Used car dealer met my offer. I looked under the chassis; new shocks, tight joints, tight axles. Yes, I second guessed myself. Then I jumped in and ain't looked back. It came with it's own scars, one less thing to worry about. The air still blows the same. Fill 'er up and come on down to Alabama. PS: you will need a/c right now.

I think you made a good choice the blue one looks nice, im sure the white one had its flaws too. Once you work on the blue one a little itll probably be the same or better than the white one in no time.

Grey ones will too, just sayin' It's a good looking Jeep and if you're happy that's all that matters. As someone before me mentioned, you should tell the guy who wanted yours about the white one, and make a wheeling buddy.... You know the Jeep credo "never wheel alone"!
