kill switch

so I found this and i really like the idea. i think i'd like a button that has to be pressed and held while the clutch is in and starting it. cuz if you just had a switch and never switched it off, then what's the point??

Simple Kill Switch:

To install a 99-cent kill switch in a standard shift Jeep, just locate the clutch safety switch.
(You will find it up near the hinge pivot of the clutch pedal) It has two wires going into it.

At a point about 2 inches from the switch, cut ONE of the two wires .

Between the 2 cut ends, splice in a simple "ON/OFF" toggle switch (about 99-cents at any auto parts store) on a long length of wire.

Hide the switch anywhere you like.

Now, in order to crank the vehicle, you must not only step on the clutch, but you must also flip the switch to "ON".

yeah, and i heard a story about a guy that owned a toyota and he got carjacked. well, in the process of being jacked, he flipped the switch and like a block down the road, the truck died.
This actually sounds like he had a switch on the fuel pump... I had to do that on my last YJ for a while because the first owner cut EVERY WIRE IN THE LOOM that went to the rear of the Jeep, so it took a little while to figure out why my fuel pumps kept burning up... Anyways, for a while, you had to switch the fuel pump on manually in my Jeep. Was really funny to watch people drive away in it and not make it out of the parking lot...:D

ok, so i've decided that i am going to put a swith and/or button in the lines for the clutch safety switch and for the fuel pump(which will be locked inside my tuffy). i came to this decision when i was driving and the hood latches were unlocked(and i KNOW i didn't do it). so anyways, which wire(s) do i need to put the switch in for my fuel pump?

You might check www.stu-offroad.com for the fuel pump kill switch. I don't know if he has it on there, but he showed me his one time and it's a trick little deal behind an area of the dash that is magnetic so you have to wave a magnet in the right spot to get it to disengage. Pretty cool.

Ive been looking for a good kill switch as well, my Jeep was stolen at one point. If anyone finds a link to the idea above let us all know!

*EDIT* http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7350&highlight=ADE&

I've built one like that. Used a smaller relay to get the size down. With a little imagination you can add all kinds of shut down relays and relays to turn other stuff on by slaving it from the primary. I even built one with a time delay, once you put the key in and try to start it you has 30 seconds to hit the bypass switch or mag switch to completed the starting circuit or the horn/siren or what ever you want will activate. Neet stuff relays, just be sure the contacts are rated for the current you are using. ;)

Hi everyone!

Silly question - I don't really know how to hotwire a car, but if one were to break the steering column and find the right wires to connect, wouldn't hotwiring bypass the clutch safety switch mechanism?

On a very related note, I love the $0.99 solution but would ideally like to do that using the fuel pump. Could one of you tell me where exactly the correct wire in which to put a switch is located on a '97 Wrangler?

Thanks!
