Poll is attached, but feel free to explain what oil brand, type, how many times you change the engine oil and why it works for you and you jeep. This is not a competition its a survey.

I use synthetics in my Subaru and Toyota (Torco, Mobil1 EP, Quaker State Ultimate Durability) and regular dino (Pennzoil Yellow Bottle 5W30) in my 2012 JK. It calls for regular 5W30 so I will stick to that. As far as the Jeep goes, I change every 3,000-5,000 miles depening on use, so no need for synthetic anyway. PYB is pretty good oil. The others go around 5,000-7,500 on synthetic.

At some point I may switch the Jeep to synthetic but it worries me that Chrysler calls for regular so I may stick with regular. Regardless, I never use synthetic till ~10,000 miles.

Everyone I ask say Mobil 1. But at the dealerships I see Pennzoil. In the past Mopar oil which was used the the dealerships was made by Mobile. The Mopar/Mobile deal went away. I wonder if Mopar oil is now supplied by Pennzoil.

JIMBOZ- 75W140 in your engine? You mean in the gearbox or diffs, right? Not sure why the 2012 recommends regular oil specifically but 5W30 is common in all my vehicles. 75W90- I use that (Motul or Motorex) in my Subaru diffs.

:D Rats-kinda like a Freudian slip-i=I'm sorry, yea I was referring to The manual, recommending syn. for diff. fluid-

They don't say anything about Dino/syn. for the engins --just 5w-20 (specs) and I don't follow that part-

I use Valvoline syn-75w-140 in the diffs and Mobile One 5w-30 in the engine--thanx for catching my flub !

:dance::rofl: JIMBO

Ya.... I have found the same thing, when I used to work in a machine shop and would tear down engines, the ones that used pennzoil had tons of ash sludge build up. Since then I have always used Valvoline racing oil with Wix filters.

That is not true- not in the past 10-15 years anyway. Some engines (Chrysler's especially) were prone to sludge buildup if oil was not changed frequently. Pennzoil makes among the best oil out there. My old Honda Accord use Pennzoil regular and changed every 5,000 miles. The engine was shiny and I sold it at 159,000 miles. The next owner (my friend) took it to 220,000 miles before totalling the poor car. Had no issues, excellent gas mileage, and if you looked down the engine oil fill area, the components were still shiny and the dipstick was aso shiny. I have also used the other oils with similar results but some engines are prone to sludge buildup. It had become much better recently.

Valvoline full Syn fluids in everything.. But I am biased based on the fact my wife works for Valvoline so I(she) get a killer discount at all of their oil change places in KY.
Prev to that I ran Amsoil.

Every 5k miles.
Valvoline or Wix filter, fram won't touch anything of mine.

I'm using High Milage Vehicle Pennzoil 5W-30 Now as a test for Oil Consumption in my 07 Mexican 3.8L.... So far it's only used 1/2 quart in 620 miles on this change.
When I change, I may try a different brand until I see whats going to run with out dripping out of the tail pipe...
I hate looking in my rear view mirror and seeing the EXON VALDEZ bearing down on me.
Filter is Puralator .... "BH"

Since the PO used synthetic, I've continued to use it. Mobil 1 10W-30 in summer and 5W-30 in winter. FWIW I use the Motorcraft (Ford) FL-1A filter.
I was changing oil and filter every 5K but I've extended my OCI to 8-10K. With 133K on the I-6, I still don't need to top it off between changes. I just checked the oil today and didn't need to add a drop at 6500 miles since the last change.

Penzoil 10w-30 and Purolator filter every 3-4K miles. I've used Penzoil for 37 years, and have never experienced any major engine failures. The highest mileage I've had before trading was ~285k. The wife's Monte has ~170k on the clock, and was bought new. It's never seen anything but Penzoil, and runs like a clock (Digital, since no ticking is involved). I doubt that it matters what oil you use, as long as it is changed regularly. Filters are a whole different story.
