MY DISCLAIMER: This is only my opinion. I don't mean to offend anyone.

I've always thought the the CJ-7 Renegades were just super cool looking. I find myself drooling over them whenever I get lucky enough to see one.

At the same time, the YJ version with the fiberglass ground effects kit is one of the silliest looking things I ever seen done to a Jeep. Some people might enjoy the look on the YJ, but I think it looks ridiculous.

If anyone enjoys the YJ Renegade or has one, I apologize for downing the look. It is still a Jeep, of course. I wouldn't kick it out of my driveway if one showed up there.

i kinda like the way it looks. but at the same time, i dont think it would be something you would wnat to take off road.
I think i want to get a 97 i like the interiors alot more. However, for the price i might consider a 91 with the other type of roll bar. I think the interiors are basically the same from 90-95, right? but I will sell the truck and see where it puts me.. maybe i will start with an older jeep.

Amen Jepper. My 83 Cj-7 Renegade is niiiiiiice. I was embarassed when they made that one with all of the extra stuff on it for YJ's.

If you like that little extra on the body then take a look at the Sahara model. I bet you will like it too.

I agree. The YJ Sahara is a nice little rig right out of the box.

My YJ is a Sahara and I wouldn't give it up for anything, although I'm thinking of shedding the Sahara look...

Get it checked by a mechanic. If it checks out, buy it.

i take it, its a pretty decent deal then. I dont have a mechanic, i wonder how much the jeep dealer will charge to look over it.

How are beadlock rims? or are they beadlock tires. I am
not very familar with off-roading stuff. also what shoudl i look for whe loking at the suspension? and specific things inside the jeep. besides lifting the carpets to look for rust.

here are some pics.

i think i see a body lift in those pics. beadlock rims(if they are real and not fauxlocks) can run 1K for a set. they pretty much clamp the bead of the tire to the rim so you can let most of the pressure out of the tire(for crawling over rocks) without losing the tire. definitely crawl up under it and look for any leaks. especially around the back of the engine, which would indicate a rear main seal leak. jeeps are prone to do that. others will chime in with other good things to look for.

looks like a clean jeep, though, for being 8 years old.

Are those real beadocks? They look like the faux ones, but I don't know for sure. Looks good. I like it.

Is it orange or is that the pics?

Those are not real beadlocks. You would not find a near stock jeep running a true bead lock rim. Those are what they call Streetlocks that kind of look like bead locks without actually being so. But don't let that stop you if you like the rims. Yeah, the rig looks fairly clean and I see the body lift too, but "I" don't have a problem with a 1" body lift. Everything looks in pretty good order. And if you want to have it looked over before you buy don't go to the dealership because they will probably rob you. Just give some local mechanics a call and see what they would charge to look over a 4Wheel Drive vehicle before you buy it.

ok, so i will hopefully look at it this week. I will try to figure out what rims are actually on it when i see them. I was dissapointed when i read that 98 is when they started putting cruise control on the jeeps.

get a stick and wedge it between the seat and the console so it holds the pedal where you want it. really only works on flat land, though.....not that i've done this or anything

I am looking for a jeep, i meant jeep instead of car.
looks like motor oil. I wil have to further inspect.

body was pretty nice, no damage, just bad wax jobs,
a scratch or two. A shitty spare tire, some smittybuilt
side bars, a new besttop or something like that.

i couldnt see the interior but i will on friday hopefully.
and drive it as well.

A question I have is, I have an extra set of rims and tires for my turck, and the jeep having the same bolt pattern, which set should i keep?

Aftermarket white steel rims (i think cragers) with mud terrain tires. New 95% tread left

Stock 03 Ranger steel rims with New 95% tread left, with highway tires on.

The rims on the Jeep I am looking at, are pretty big and dont look like they would handle the highway for longer trips very well.

either set of my trucks rims/tires would be a better ride.
probably the high tire over the mud terrain tire.

what do you guys think.

Actually, bigger rims would make them handle better on the highway (assuming same tire size) because of a decreased profile of the tire and therefore greater stability on the road. I think that it is going to come down to personal preference. I am sure that the streetlocks on the Jeep are more expensive than the white steel wheels, so if you want to get more money for, or have the Ranger sell faster, you should swap them.

Yes. The dolly only helps with weight distribution. You're still dragging all the weight and inevitably have to try and stop whe whole load. Wouldn't be pretty if you had to stop quickly.

I wouldn't buy a modded 4x4 ever - the chances of having one that was done right by the previous owner are pretty darn slim and lots of times they're newcomers that throw on a lift, and wheel the piss out of it without thinking a handfull of times and really mess things up - you may be opening yourself up to a world of problems. Look for stock stuff and go from there. Unless you're CERTAIN that the ONLY thing done on that Jeep (if it's 3"+ on the lift) were some coils, trackbars, a transfer-case drop, control arms, and some larger tires I'd pass it - if it was a 2" economy lift with a 1" body you're probably ok.

I agree. You really cant trust the install and parts used, as well as how the jeep was used etc. I believe in "if you want it done right, do it yourself", and as many others do too, "built not bought"

well i drove that red 97. it rode pretty rough. it had some power, pretty loud exhaust. kinda weird getting in and out of it.
The soft top was pretty loud in the wind. and the lack of roll down windows was a drag. I suppose you could always get those slider type windows. but I think i really want to get one that comes with a hard top and hard doors.
