Looking for a soft top?

Hello all,

I'm looking for a soft top and was wondering which one is best.

My friend said I should get the one that covers the front two and has a tonneau that covers the back.

My dad said I should get the full soft top that covers the entire cab.

And I've seen people have the full soft top without side windows.

What do you think is the best, all round soft top? TY in advance.

There are just so many to choose from.

I like my full top only because you can use it year round no matter what the weather. but then again I have the tonneau and bikini top for the jeep as well. I think I'm gonna be looking into the "half top" looks kinda like the tonneau and bikini covers but with an attached "duster" best thing about it is that its all one piece.

i would love to have the half top myself just b/c i think it looks cool. the full soft top is definitely way more practical though. i would have the half top as a second/alternative top, but not as my one and only. while 95% of the time i am the only person in my jeep, i don't like the idea of not being able to put a couple extra people in there.

when i bought my 97 in september, it had a brand new Bestop Supertop on it....worst top design ever. i sold it within 2 days of ownership. just a week ago, i bought a brand new OEM soft top from an 06 rubicon from craigslist. the guy's jeep came with both tops and traded it in with the hard top and kept the soft to sell for cash on the side. bought it with all hardware and tinted windows for $400...brand new. i still had to get the upper doors, but since i didn't have any of the factory hardware/frame/etc, it was a steal anyway.

anyway, definitely do the full soft top for now and if your TJ isn't too new, you can get the half top later.

Where is a one piece one? Does it have any kind of door surrounds, will it work on a YJ with half doors and sliding uppers? Link? Thanks

I've seen the ones on eBay, duno if they're one piece or not, and they use a stock hoop from the stock soft top assembly. Kinda hokey. I'd rather it go to the rollbar, it sits a few inches lower and would look a whole lot better.

I have the Bestop Supertop and while it's not as tight fitting it does what it's supposed to do.

I love my Viking Fastback soft top. I have an e-mail into the company to see if they'll say when they'll start selling these again. Rumor has it that it's next month!

The "next month" rumor has been going on a while now. How's your top holding up?

I love the design but I know they've been having QC issues with them.

A couple of months ago, I heard Feb., '08, so we'll see.

Mines holding up great! It's "settled in" some more now, so you don't see the wrinkles near the door handles as pictured above. Also, with the recent rains we've been have here...no leaks at all!

I could've sworn those were one piece... of course I could be wrong now looking into them again. either way I still like them, but be careful if you go looking to buy one some are not waterproof... I think they use the door surrounds for a soft top and they give you extra hardware for other areas of attachment.

I don't know about the rest of you buying new tops for $400 off craigslist, I ended up picking up mine off Ebay for like $310 its a rugged ridge and it works perfectly. its a little thinner than a stock OEM top but works perfect I've had no problems with it.

it looks like this
http://www.quadratec.com/products/im...2F35934-lg.jpg you can also take the whole top down like a regular one.. I believe it came optional in 2006

I am not going to install it until it warms up. as for selling the hardtop I dont think I would.. you never know when you need it or have a change of pace..

never know when I need to move across the states, or when we get invaded by aliens .. plus they are hard to come by

I'll probably just get a bikini top or something, once I figure out how to fold down my YJ top. Haven't tried cause I don't wanna get in over my head. How difficult is it?
