looking for my first jeep

I'm torn between an 85 cj7 near perfect condition with a 258 and 4 speed manual all stock minus wheels and tires hard top and also bikini top. Or a 91 yj 4.0 5 speed a little rust nothing serious soa lift 33in tires and a soft top. I want a weekend rig for my wife 2 kids and myself. Thanks for any input.

I've had both. My first Jeep was a CJ-5. I loved that Jeep. I now have a '93 YJ that I plan on doing a CJ front-end conversion to.
I'm just partial to the way the CJs look. Mechanically, the YJs are more advanced, but the CJs look way cooler.

Thanks for the input. That's the problem I'm having the cj just looks so cool. Does one ride smoother then the other or does that all depend on suspension and tires?

Typically, the YJ will give you a smoother ride. The springs are wider and so is the overall width of the differentials. The YJ will be more stable as well because of that. Get the YJ and then do what I'm going to do...a CJ front-end conversion. Basically, you'll have the looks of a CJ with the better mechanicals of the YJ.
