Loud bang when my grand cherokee is in 4 wheel drive.

I have a 95 grand Cherokee an when I am in 4 wheel drive I hear a loud bang every ten or so feet.
What could this be?

Check the front drive shaft especially if it has the CV joint at the lower end as compared to a U joint. They can come completely apart but still hang together due to the nature of the constant velocity joint.
