LSD or not? Jack up the rear end, spin one of the tires by hand the 2nd doesnt move!

if Jack up the rear end to get the tires off the ground. Put the transmission in neutral and spin one of the tires by hand the other wheel doesnt move, i have a wrangler YJ, changes has been done from previous owner,but dont know what
so i need to know if i have LSD or not in the rear.

can somebody help,
I tried it in offroad it doesnt seem that its LSD, but previous owner said it is.
is he lying or what

Both tires should spin in the same direction if you have LSD or a Posi or a true locker. I think the previous owner got one over on you.

it's an open diff or a posi with no clutches left. You sure the brakes aren't binding on the other side?

yes no brakes, because both wheels are n the air, and i spinned right side (the left didnt move) then spinned left side (right side didnt move)
strange heinn

is it possible when u lift both wheels, something is diengaging inside the diffrential ?

what do u mean ""a posi with no clutches left".

is it that the cluches damaged? if yes what are the symptoms, sound can be heard from diffrenetial or something??

Some LSD units use a clutch arrangement inside the unit. Those clutches can wear out and stop working which it would basically turn it into a regular open diff. Some can be rebuilt and some cant. The better/stronger ones use a geared setup and they dont really wear out. Dont know of any sounds coming from the diff. You just lose the LSD action of the differential. Jacking it up will not disengage anything so either it is NOT an Lsd diff or something wore out/broke inside. Pulling the cover would give you a better idea of whats in there plus you can look at the gears to see the condition of them.
