Manual Transmission noises?!?

I just bought a 2006 Jeep Wrangler X with a 6 speed manual transmission (I 4.0). It seems that when I shift from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to third, it is a bit loud. It doesnít sound like a clunk or grinding but almost as if Iím shifting to quick and the clutch hasnít completely disengaged. I am proficient at driving stick but I feel that maybe I am to used to driving small cars with standard as opposed to a "truck". I loved the engine in my old jeep Cherokee so much and have always wanted a wrangler so I decided to get the X and love it. Now I am unsure if what I am hearing is normal or something is wrong. If I slow down or alter my shift it seems to go away, is this normal? Anyone with any answers or that can clearly describe how a healthy clutch/shift sounds I would appreciate it.

My 06 X sounds the exact same i assume its normal since it is a jeep it deffently shifts different then my last car what was a 06 Eclipse GT with a 6 spd, so im intrested in learning if this is normal

My '09 is quiet. What rpm are you shifting at?

I am shifting around 10mph. The more I drive my Jeep the more I think I am just shifting to fast. I'm used to hearing my shift, that’s not really abnormal from my experience, it just seems to be a bit loud when I try and shift "fast". I think I am just worrying too much. I might bring it back to the dealer and talk with them but I have a feeling they will tell me "its not a sports car" therefore it will not perform like one…. which I can completely understand.

This may or may not have anything to do with your concern, but since there are faulty pushrods out there, your clutch may not be completly disengaging causing your concern.

NOTE : This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a manual transmission built from November 3, 2005 through February 13, 2006(MDH 110306 through 021306).

IMPORTANT : Many of the vehicles within the above build period have alreadybeen repaired and, therefore, have been excluded from this recall.

Subject
The clutch pedal pushrod on about 6,600 of the above vehicles may break and allow clutch engagement when the pedal is depressed. This can increase the vehicle's stopping distance and/or cause engine stalling, which can result in a crash without warning.

Repair
The clutch pedal pushrod, plastic spacer, foam seal, and interlock switch cover must be replaced.







Parts Information

Special Tools







This special tool (shown) is required to perform this repair.

All dealers were sent one (1) Clutch Pedal Pushrod Release Tool in late July, 2006 free of charge.

Additional release tools may be purchased from Miller Special Tools by calling 1-800-801-5420.

NOTE : Additional release tools are not reimbursable by DaimlerChrysler.

Completion Reporting and Reimbursement

Claims for vehicles that have been serviced must be submitted on the
DealerCONNECT Claim Entry Screen located on the Service tab. Claims
submitted will be used by DaimlerChrysler to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments.







Use the labor operation number and time allowance shown.

Dealer Notification

All dealers will receive a copy of this dealer recall notification letter by mail. Two additional copies will be sent through the DCMMS. To view this notification on DealerCONNECT, select "Global Recall System" on the Service tab, then click on the description of this notification.

Owner Notification and Service Scheduling

All involved vehicle owners known to DaimlerChrysler are being notified of the service requirement by first class mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for this service with their dealers. A generic copy of the owner letter is included.

Enclosed with each owner letter is an Owner Notification postcard to allow owners to update our records if applicable.

Dealers are encouraged to consider alternative scheduling and servicing approaches for this recall. This repair does not require hoists or other full service facility special equipment and is a DaimlerChrysler Mobile Service approved repair.

Vehicle Lists, Global Recall System, VIP and Dealer Follow Up

All involved vehicles have been entered into the DealerCONNECT Global Recall System (GRS) and Vehicle Information Plus (VIP) for dealer inquiry as needed.

GRS provides involved dealers with an updated VIN list of their incomplete
vehicles. The owner's name, address and phone number are listed if known.
Completed vehicles are removed from GRS within several days of repair claim submission.

To use this system, click on the "Service" tab and then click on "Global Recall System." Your dealer's VIN list for each recall displayed can be sorted by: those vehicles that were unsold at recall launch, those with a phone number, city, zip code, or VIN sequence.

Dealers must perform this repair on all unsold vehicles before retail delivery.
Dealers should also use the VIN list to follow up with all owners to schedule appointments for this repair.

Recall VIN lists may contain confidential, restricted owner name and address information that was obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles of various states. Use of this information is permitted for this recall only and is strictly prohibited from all other use.
