depends on what you're doing. its kinda small, usually a good minimum for a jeep is 9,000 lbs. its a great price for an 8,000 lbs winch, and i think some people on here are using it and i think i heard they like it.

but there's a reason a good 9,500 lb winch is over a grand.

having said that, this winch beats the crap out of the one i'm using, cuz i ain't got one. so its a good investment.

I have the Mile Marker 9500C and have no complaints. However, I do not use it every weekend either so I think it really depends on your intended use. If you are looking for a recreational winch, the Mile Marker will save you some coin for the other doo dads on your list.

Of course, some of purists here that have unlimited disposable cash will suggest Warn.

That's the same one I have. I used it for the first time yesterday and it worked great.

The "wench" would be my wife...... You gotta problem with my wife???? Do we need to take this outside?????

Ok, really, my sig is just a couple of quotes from people I consider friends on this board. Yes, the misspelling is intentional and I'm sorry it's bugging you, but I'm not going to change it. Ask just about anyone on the board, I'm a stickler for smelling mistakes. Makes me crazy when people missmell words in the're posts. And I also hate it when people use "your" instead of "you're" in there posts.

For the record, Big Brother will not let me load spell check and I'm too lazy to wash it through MS Word..... So if my spelling is off, you will all know why and you will have to deal with it.

Back on topic:

The Mile Marker winch is pretty good, kind of slow, but good. A few guys in my club use them.

If you are going to be the casual winch owner / or want one to "complete" your jeep, then may I suggest the Smittybilt XRC8 that will save you a little coin.

If you are going to use your winch like 2-5 times a month, then you have to go with the Warn.

this is just my .02

When I need to winch myself or somebody else, its usually not for some small problem, at that time I don't need be thinking about the great deal I got on a winch, and hope that its up to the job. There are certain things that cost more for a reason. A Good winch is one of those. Thus 153 more for a better winch seems good.

flairhead is used for guiding the cable off / on the winch when it is spooling.

Yes most winches can be submurged for a moment or two and still work, they just needs a bit of care afterwards..a good squirting of WD-40. As far as getting wet, 95% of us that have winches have been in the rain.
