Missing Parts on my lift kit

So I waited for almost 40 days for my Rough Country lift kit for my 97 TJ to arrive at my FPO AP address. Upon receiving the boxes (they shipped them in two seperate boxes) I noticed that they were pretty beat up. The boxes even had stickers on them from the post office that says they received them damaged from somewhere along the line in shipping. I made sure to take pictures of the boxes and the stickers stating they were damaged. I decided to open up the boxes and inventory all the pieces. Amazingly all of the small pieces were still there but then I noticed that one of the rear sway bar links was missing and one of the front links was chipped at the bend.

I am already going to contact JC Whitney about the missing piece and Rough Country themselves since the package was drop shipped directly from RC. I have three questions:

1) Who is actually to blame, the USPS or RC for their packaging?

2) Can I install and run the Lift kit with only 1 swaybar link while waiting for an additional swaybar link?

3) Can I manufacture my own link to match the one that I did receive, using the old ends from the stock swaybar link and weld a rod with the proper length of the swaybar link?

ok, I contacted Rough Country and they said I have to contact JC Whitney. I understand they are the ones I bought it through, but the damn package came straight from RC themselves! If they had packaged such a large item better, I would not have to worry about parts falling out of the packaging while being shipped. It just sucks because I already had to wait 5 weeks for it to get here and then to be missing parts is just piss poor.

Did Rough Country ask you for a purchase order number and if they did were you able to provide it? I had a few broken grease fittings and had to provide them with the PO# from the place I bought the lift from in order for them to send me the replacements free of charge. If you provided them with that and they still directed you back to JC Whitney, then shame on them. At least that's my opinion. They're supposed to have good customer service but both times that I've contacted them, they have been a little rude.

I always found that when I recieved a package to my FPO/AP address it was a crap shoot on how I would recieve it. Either the box would be rounded or it would be perfect. SUcks that you will have to wait until the replacement parts are sent.

What size lift do you have? I have a 2.5" lift and run the stock links with no issues but I doubt you could run the stock links on a much higher lift. Depending on your lift, it may be an option until you get the new parts

Well if you lived or stationed in the USA the shipping would not have taken so long you know.

I do realize that it would not have taken this long if I lived or was stationed in the states. It is just the fact that it already sucks that stuff takes a month and a half to get to me and then when I get it, I am missing parts due to the fact that they packaged the parts poorly. I have ordered Tube fenders and other large items from back in the states that literally only took 5 days to get to me. They were packaged so well that when they arrived it took me another hour just to get them unwrapped. A little common sense on their part would have been nice. There are some very heavy items in a lift kit, so make sure you are putting enough padding within the box to ensure they dont shift. How hard is it to do that?

Dang, it's frustrating when you are all wound up about something and it arrives beat to heck with pieces missing. I sure can feel your pain.

I know this may not be much of a consolation to you, but I have been to Rough Country in person on a number of occasions and have had the pleasure of seeing their entire operation at one time or another, including their packing & shipping department.

I've spent a good amount of time hanging around the warehouse & shipping area, not by choice, but while waiting for the warehouseman to pull parts for me. While waiting, I watched. It was interesting, what can I say?

The folks in their warehouse do a fine job of packaging. All are friendly, hard working 'Mericans right there in Dyersburg Tennessee. It looks as though they take pride in their work and in the company they work for.

My guess would be that the packages were battered in transit and that the freight carrier was to blame because I never once saw any evidence of rough handling at Rough Country.

I sent a message to our RC club rep, maybe he can help you out somehow.

I guess I should update. I almost forgot this in yesterdays post. I did contact JC Whitney and they said that they would contact RC and get the parts sent out to me ASAP. I asked to receive some kind of tracking number for the package that will be sent. I still have not received any confirmation that the part has been shipped. I contacted them on the 11th and it is now the 15th. I do have faith that everything will be corrected. JC whitney refunded me 75 dollars on the kit which was very nice considering I did not pay for the shipping in the first place. They also sent me out a 15 percent off coupon.

In the mean time I did go ahead and install my lift kit yesterday and it looks really good. As far as the back links, I did not install them due to missing one and I went ahead and removed the rear sway bar. So far she is riding really nice.

I'm glad that you were able to install it and that things are going ok for you.
Hopefully you'll get the rest of the parts soon.

That was really nice, what JCW did for you. Kind of over and above as far as customer service. It's good to see our American companies doing the right thing and particularly for our servicemen.

I didn't get a chance to say it in my previous post, but I want to thank you for your service and wish you all the best.
