I was thinking of doing the same. Tapering the ends. About a third tapered on each end.

I have no front bumper right now and don't want to get questioned about it by the police. I see a used stock one for sale nearby for $60, but I don't like the looks of them and don't want to spend a bunch on an aftermarket.
I was thinking of taking from the framerails out and tapering them up to about an inch and a half and squaring it off.
Would an '05 bolt right on to '98?

I've done it and really like it. I'm considering just putting a winch plate on the stock bumper or ordering a light bar instead of buying a new bumper.

VDP end caps.

Your bumper does not look any different?

The end caps are shorter. Check out a stock front bumper.

Looks good Chris.
