Must Have tools for the trail

Ive seen the tools for the garage thread but just wondering if anyone has a list of tools you may need for the trail. Was considering purchasing a small tool kit but most of the stuff in them I will never use. So I consider it wasted space (one thing a wrangler owner cant afford!)

So, please let me know what tools I may need on the trail so I can put my own tool kit together for emergencies. thanks!

I keep a pair of vise grips, pliers, hi-lift jack, 19mm socket, breaker bar, a thermal blanket and a butane torch lighter in a waterproof bag.

I have one of those small red metal tool boxes. I throw that in the back (and strap it down tight ) with all my common tools. Hammer, rubber mallet, socket set, screw drivers, and torx sockets and torx drivers. Plenty of water and a basic first aid kit, and CB and fully charged spare cell phone battery.

Well, I meqn the most common that I use. So no, not the whole damn set. Sorry, should clarified further. I can never remember what sizes I need, so I put bright pink nail Polish on them so when it's time to hit the trail, I can just grab them from main tool box. Oh yeah, and needle nose and channel locks, a strand of bailing wire and duct tape. (No joke)

Would be nice to know the sizes so I can see whats in my box already and buy a few spares. I will edit all this up on the first post to make this an easy list to access for everyone. Thanks for taking the time to answer

Definitely sounds like you are out on the trails often. Those items aren't put in as "hemmed, think I migration need this today" but more as a well I have this left over from last time.... that's about how my Telecom bag looks like. All sorts of shit in there that I have gathered up over the years.

yeaaaa... dont suppose Ill be putting those kinds of things in my jeep but you never know lol. Anyways thanks for all the input on tools. I just dont want to waste a bunch of space buying a tool kit with 6mm sockets when I know I wont use them. Rather have a self built tool kit full of tools that I can actually use on my jeep

Here's my socket set with torque wrench 2 socks and torx all in 3/8 and 1/4. Don't use original package and you'll save space.
Fits nicely in my tool box with another one full of wrenches and screw drivers pliers ectc-.

Don't forget a shovel and recovery straps etc.

In the ammo can under the hood I keep standard and deep well sockets sized from 5/16-3/4 and 6mm-19mm in 3/8 and 1/2" drive depending on size of socket, 1 3/8-1/2" drive adapter and one 1/2-3/8" adapter, extensions for both sizes ratchet. 1 3/8 ratchet, 1 1/2 ratchet, combination wrenches in the same sizes as the sockets, 1 ball peen hammer, 1 14" pry bar, 1 36mm socket, channel locks, gerber multi tool, 2 phillips screw drivers, 2 flat screw drivers in different sizes.
In my console I have small can of wd-40, a spool of mechanics wire, and about 10ft of duct tape wrapped around some card board, a couple gallon size zip lock bags, and some panty hose.
My recovery bag has a 20ft 3" recovery strap, 4 ratchet straps, a tree saver, snatch block, a lot of tire plugs and glue/tools, and 4 or 5 clevises.
On the exterior I have a high lift, folding shovel, and lug wrench.
All this and I still manage a cooler stocked with food and beverages a gallon of water and a gallon of oil tied down behind the back seat. There is a decent first aid kit mounted to the floor under the passenger seat in a water tight storage container and a fire extinguisher mounted on the floor by each seat. under the front seat is a little metal box I got at a yard sell with a couple spare ujoints, spare front and rear slip yokes, spare front pinion yoke, and a spare stub shaft.
Now I wonder what all I have left out.

Hack saw---not many carry this but has been handy.

Cut crushed shut exhaust
Broken universal that snapped strap bolt. Cut a grove in top of bolt and got it out with screwdriver.

I keep jumper cable! Hahaha they seem to come in handy a lot too! I also keep a few wrenches mag-lite, screw drivers, chain, and some rope. Just in case I'm sure I left stuff out but that's all I can think of right now.

Panty hose can be tied together to make an emergency fan belt. Or worn over the head if you don't want someone to recognize you. There are some other uses but we won't go into that. Some things you just don't talk about.

And no one mentioned a small roll of toilet paper? You never know!

just wondering about something like this so you don't have to get rid of the spare, would hate to see you with a flat, a tire probably gets the most abuse off road...
