Ahhhh , 'subbed' = 'subscribed'. I just learned something new!

Hope my project proceeds fast enough to hold your interest and meets with expectations! Mrs. Redneck is also hoping for a rapid progression; I'm building it for her primarily!

Nice, I completely dig the color matched soft top and doors!

Good luck! If i ever get a 5, it'll be this color.

If you like the color, then it may pain you to know that I'm going to change it to black. Mrs. Redneck will be driving this Jeep mostly, and she wants black.

Wow...it might've been easier to start out with a large slab of stone and a chisel.

Should be interesting to watch you resuscitate that bad boy, though.

You're right about that, Wolf. I would never go out and buy an old Jeep just to build it up.

This one is a labor of love, however. My father bought this Jeep brand new in '79. I learned to 'wheel in it my senior year of high school. When my father passed away, the family said they'd like to see the old Jeep resurrected again. I was the one with the will, and the means, so off I go!!!

Now that's cool.

Luck to you, and patience.

I find it somewhat sad that you are painting it black. That blue is awesome and you can pretty much bet that there wouldn't be another like it. I know, I know, if Mama ain't happy. Any chance that she would change her mind?

I always hated the blue anyway; just wouldn't have been my choice. Mrs. Redneck originally wanted red! I wanted to bedline the whole rig, but the wifey shut me down on that one!!! She is going to allow me to bedline the entire inside of the tub, however.

Nothing too new to report; though I've just about finished the "strip-down". Pics when I get a chance.

I got a line on a low-mileage 360 (that came from a rolled Cherokee). The guy who has it was going to swap it into his CJ7. He also has other upgrade bits for the motor, including a new, in-the-box Howell TBI kit!!! Apparently a divorce forced him to sell the CJ, and now he's wanting to dump the engine and other goodies. Says he'll sell the whole setup for $1200!!! That's a heck of a score, if it's legit. Shoot, the engine could be trash, and the deal would still be good with the value of the cores, and the Howell kit! Caveat emptor; I'll keep you posted.

I bought the AMC 360 with the stock 2-barrel intake manifold for $300. I did not buy the Howell TBI unit; it had already been installed on another Jeep at one time, and I opted to spend the extra $$$, and I will buy a brand new, warranted unit.

The engine looks pretty good; there is a lot of carbon on the exhaust valves, but there is very little visible evidence of wear on the valve stems and guides, rockers, push rods, or cylinder walls.

Here's the engine (I had taken the heads off) just before I put it up on the engine stand yesterday:

I cleaned the heads up, and have started to clean up the valves, push rods, rockers, and lifters. I'm not sure which parts, if any, I will re-use, or which I will replace. I'm going to let the machine shop inspect them, and I'll replace if necessary. I'd like the engine to be "better than stock", so I'm assuming I'll be replacing quite a few parts.

Here are the spic 'n' span heads:

Here are the rockers, valves, and lifters, in the impromptu storage containers, labelled by location from which they were on the heads:

So, while I'm doing the work on the replacement engine, I'm trying to get the Jeep ready for the "transplant".

I'm going to rewire the whole thing, and recondition the entire tub and dash. This is far as I'm going on the inside....... everything is removed except the pedals, steering column, and shifters:

This is the engine compartment as of yesterday afternoon, just before my son-in-law and I hoisted the tired old 304 out of its home, readying the Jeep for its engine transplant:

The bellhousing bolts are removed, and we're just about ready to start hoisting!!!!

And the engine is out!!! Ready for the engine compartment to get its makover!!!

I haven't decided yet, Tom. I, unlike some, like the stickers on my Rubicon. So, I may put the stickers on the CJ, too. My wife is my partner in this project (which means she's going to get her way no matter what); she'll make the final decision on whether to "sticker it" or not!

The original '80 Renegade stickers look fantastic on black. There's a guy somewhere that has them on a black JK and it looks fantastic. I wish I still had my '80 CJ7 Renegade.

You think anybody would notice if I put Rubicon stickers on it? Or maybe just a subtle "Trail Rated" badge on the tailgate? After all, this rig HAS run the Rubicon!
