Still working on it. I never get much time to work on things at home, but eventually I will have some front and rear designs done. I work on an older version of AutoCad at home (2000). I need to get this done soon so I can fire up my new welder.

Well that would be sweet. I managed to get a trial copy of autocad 2007, I havent really messed with it much. Sketchup is another program and is a tad more user friendly. I'll be doing some stuff on sketchup first. If i finish i'll send ya some ideas

I've been working on the rear bumper. Trying to engineer a mounting system for the swing out tire carrier. I have my front end design on paper, just not in the computer yet. I'd love to see your designs when you get them done. Send me a PM.

I've also been working on a design for a rear tire carrier/rack/can holder not on CAD, but with paper, pencil, a rular and a compass.

Is cad a good program for designing stuff?

don't be confused in to thinking I know anything about drawing programs

.....however, Frank uses Solidworks and thinks it's better than sliced bread....someting about being able to draw in 3-D???
Anyone using this program?

Solidworks is a great program for designing Jeep parts. I don't have it at home, but we have it at work. To answer your question Odhinn, yes a CAD program is great for designing parts. You can build it to exact scale in whatever degree of accuracy you want. Then you can drop in all the dimensions that you need to build it. Everythign I build has fill plans printed out before I begin. My son and I are just finishing up his pinewood derby for Cub Scouts, he helped do all the designing before we started. we printed out cutting templates and rendered 3-D images for reference.

I used to run EasyCAD at a little tool and die shop that I worked at. It wasn't real advanced like autoCAD or Solidworks, but it didn't cost $3000 either. You could get it at Walmart, but I don't know if they still carry it. It was something like $125.
