My Jeep Saved My Life

Hello, fellow jeepers

I know everyone out there loves their jeeps. I loved mine as well. Now i love her even more.

Yesterday at 8:40 AM, i was on my way to work, on a back country road. The gravel was freshly grated and sprayed with calcium to keep the dust down, leaving the road slippery, and the shoulders very soft. A deer jumped out in front of me and as a reaction i swerved. My front right tire caught the soft shoulder and i was pulled into the side of a culvert. my steering wheel was ripped out of my hands and and i was launched into the ditch. from there on, i had no control of the vehicle. I hit a telephone pole at about 60 KM/h on the front drivers side.

The speed of the impact caused the telephone pole to explode, shooting the bottom of the pole forward. The top half, no longer having a bottom, was pulled backwards in the direction of the support wire, through my windshield. The pole came to a rest wedged between my steering wheel and the top of the windshield.

The fact that i was in a jeep is the reason i am here. the rare full body frame that the jeep wrangler is known for stopped the engine from ending up on my lap, which i have been told would have surly happened due to the small surface area of then jeep that actually hit the telephone pole. Second. any other vehicle with any other windshield design, without above windshield roll bar, would not have caught the pole, and it would have continued inward, and i think you can piece the rest together from the picture

life is short, and i caught a huge break. please be careful my friends

Thank you Jeep for saving my life. I will never drive another vehicle.

Good to hear you're OK. The Jeep can be replaced, your life can't.

Thumbs up

PTL you survived this accident U R indeed a walking miracle

We must train ourselves and our children, to not "Instinctively" swerve to miss deer or dogs (90% of the time the result is an accident like yours or a "roll-over"). The same applies to the tire running off the edge of the road (train yourself to slow down and EASE the car back on the road) !

I learned this early during Defensive Driving in the Academy

That is brutal man! Good to hear that you are okay! It makes us all feel better to know that our Jeeps can handle some serious abuse and still keep us safe.

Glad OP is alright!

I agree, if Rescue Green was available for 2012, I would have most certainly gotten it. I love the Bright Metallic Silver but Rescue Green is awesome on a Wrangler.
