Name my lift!

I'm new. Hi! I was reading through the threads, and somewhere, someone mentioned that he/she could name how much of a lift a jeep had from a picture, so I'm posting a few pictures. I've got 31" BFG All-Terrains. Thanks! I need a gas tank skid plate, and I need to know how much of a lift I've got.

and a body lift around 2
maybe a little less 1.25

See now I'd say no lift.... Sittin on 31's... Measure your springs, look for pucks at the top of them, then compare your spring length with this chart.

I get it this week, I'll measure it then. With your knowledge, I have to assume you're right, but boy oh boy I hope not!

How much/how easy is a small lift, and would the tires I presently have look ok?

I really AM raw and new at Jeeps!

I'd have to agree with no lift. Here is my daughters on 30's with no lift. Look at the rear, yours has a little less clearance due to the extra inch of tire height. The front is deceiving because of the fender mod.

LOL I've definitely got a "boy jeep" vibe from it, or I'd totally use Eunice. My husband agrees, so still searching...

No, but I would leave it alone, but all of the gas tank skid plates say that you have to have at least a half inch lift... Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing. Mine's rusting away, so I thought instead of dropping the old plate, gas tank, etc, I'd just cut away the rusty section(s) and put on an aftermarket skid plate that bolts onto the original mounts on top of the OEM (rusty) one...

I welcome all advice!!! I don't really have too much time with cutting and grinding and lowering gas tanks (I have done it, though, on a truck), or a place to do it - just moved here. I also need a section of frame patched. Maybe I could find a shop that'd do all of it.

Well, doesn't a Jeep meet those criteria?

I think I see the frame and
trans plate more on his
look for the pucks on susp
and on the body mounts

It could be where pic is taken
from and those front fenders

I say no lift.

As for the fuel tank armor...when most all say you need 1/2'' lift...they are referring to the body and not the suspension. To install some to the tank skid they require a body lift to raise the body up...giving you room to raise the tank up also with the skid. The jeep you pictured above has no body lift on it.

So am I a terrible person if I install an aftermarket skid that fits over the stock, without doing anything about the rust on the stock?

Just take the old skid off completly and put on the aftermarket skid. Otherwise id think that would be potentionally a rattle.

Yeah, that's probably best. There are so many out there! I'm not ready to do any lifting yet, but I will eventually so whatever one I go with I'd like to have fit both ways.

Recommendations for one that I can do alone? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, and have tools, just not a lot of time.

Of all I've seen said here the thing that stood out to me is this " I also need a section of frame patched" to me that is much more important than anything else. All else is cosmetics but the frame being rusted to the point of needing repair is serious. How bad is it and is it only in one spot?

Thanks for the link - I'll check it out when I have some time!

The rust is a quarter - sized hole. I'll have it cut around and patched. But the gas tank skid isn't just cosmetic, is it?? I thought it held the gas tank on.

Gate53 is right without a doubt post a pic of the part of the frame that needs to be fixed.

Yea a damage frame is no joke potentionally life threating. Imagine going down the highway around 70 or 60 and the frame snaps where a section is rotted after you hit one of those bumps going onto a small bridge.

Okies, I started a new thread for the rust issue:

Frame rot assist!

Thanks to all here for the lift (or lack of lift) advice!

Oh no, wait, I wasn't really done! So, back to the gas tank skid plate issue... Can I get an aftermarket plate that fits over the old (rusted out) one, put it on, and call it good? Or do I really need to drop off the old one (along with the gas tank) and replace it with something aftermarket?
