Need Advice ASAP about dealership screw up!

Good Morning,

Long story short... the dealership preformed service on my jeep I did not ok.

I brought in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler to have the timing gasket replaced (TSB), at the time I mentioned a steering knock. They called back and said they would order the gasket and that the steering knock could not be replicated. They would replace the steering parts that I had mentioned but it would not be under warranty.

I said no, not at this time, could you please just replace the timing gasket.

I got a call on Friday and they said they had replaced the steering components but not the gasket.

I said I did not "ok" this work and specifically said that I wanted only the gasket. The service manager said that they admit fault since they have been going through a "transition". Now he says that they are going to take out the new parts and put back in my old ones!

Is this safe? Should I be worried? I am concerned about the integrity of the "old parts" as well with the service.

What if this knock is worse; it was not bad before.. just a every now and then...

Please I am looking for advice before I call back.

Thank you.

Well, you have been driving with the steering knock (? I'm not really sure what that means?) for how ever long now anyway. And it's the old parts that you suppose were causing it, so it seems to me, since you told them not to replace them, that you really don't have any thing to fuss about. They will put back the old parts and it may be the same, worse or maybe even better. It could be that something was just loose and in replacing it they will tighten it up. If it's worse, take it somewhere else and get it fixed. I don't really see what could be unsafe about them putting the old parts back in, but I'm no expert....

Please enlighten me on what exactly a "steering knock" is....

have you tried negotiating to keep the fixed steering parts? offer to pay for the parts only? my worry is the tech is gonna be pissed, he's not getting paid for the work he already did, now he has to do the job a second time, both times not being paid.

Shouldn't be an issue as long as the work is done properly. you can remove and replace them 20 times, and it won't matter.

They need to check and set the Toe on their own dime.

I would go look at my Jeep and drive it before they mess with it anymore. If you are OK with how it drives, tell them they can leave the new parts, but you want a serious discount. If they won't work with you on the price, then just have them put it back like it was.

yeah, not good if your tech is an a-hole. He may fudge something else up like spittin' on a burger.

But, I like the idea of getting the repairs for the cost of the hardware. Thats a good avenue to persue.

nice sig quote

and they should go for it, they sell the parts, instead of returning them or hocking them onto someone elses jeep. and the labor isn't done twice at least, just once.

Go there in person. Ask to see the old parts. They must show them to you. They made the mistake. They cannot remove the new parts unless you authorize the work. Do not negotiate anything over the phone.
