need help deciding

I need some help on what I should do

my dana44 in my jeep has been leaking from wear the axle tube enters the
housing.
I have a dana44 empty housing from a scout in my back yard.
the scout axle housings are about 1" narrower then the jeep 44
so I can swap that in but I have to buy new axles to fit it but my locker and gears will fit.
at the local junk yard if I remember right there was a dana44 in a comanche
that looks like its in good shape. my dana44 was out of an 89 comanche that I bought about 4-5 years ago so everything will swap over from my axle.
they also have a 8.8 with the disk brakes sitting there but I would have to get new ring and pinion and a locker for it.

I was thinking of buying the comanche d44 and taking the disk brakes from the 8.8

or should I just buy the scout d44 axles and build that scout d44 housing up

I would weld it. I think the cast housing needs to be heated with a tourch before you weld the tubes to it.

if they are cast they are hard to weld. best way to weld cast is tig. the problem is the welds crack as it cools on cast. anything but tig you got to make it hot then weld, and let it cool slowly keeping the torch on it.

not saying you have, but i've noticed that people like to overfill differentials, thinking more fluid is better. push too much fluid in and then cap it right away, this will lead to leaks at the axle seals commonly. just throwin that in.

its not over filled
its been leaking for at least 2years and its been leaking out off the axle tube plug welds for about the same amount of time
a friend was having the same problem he ended up putting another d44 in it

its not leaking enough to puddle under the axle
exept the dragging against the rocks does break the diff cover seal enough to cause it to leak
