New or used tires

i have the option to buy 4 33x12.5x15 wrangler duratracs with about half tread for about $500. Or i can buy 4 new duratracs without rims for around $700. any opinions?

thats a plus for sure..But,you are not going to run a set of tires until they are slick. So if they have half tread then actually they have a good bit less than half their life left..With the new tires you would get at the very least, twice the miles out of them for only 50 bucks extra per tire

thats a good point. ill look on craigslist for some cheap rims in the mean time. having two sets of rims and tires would be nice.

I know nothing about rocks but in mud or sand the full tread of a new tire will perform much better

Could also split the difference and buy Treadwrights. That size might run you $170 per tire shipped to your door.
