New Patriot

I have been talkin my wife into buying a Jeep for her to drive. Right now she has a freakin chevy cobalt. We are both concerned about Fuel Mileage and she will never really wheel whatever it is we get, so I am sawying toward the new patriot.

What do you guys think about it? YOu think the trail rated version could do some light trails? What about that CVT tranny offroad? Most important, snow time. We dont get a lot of snow in Ky, buty when we do we get a lot all at once. Therefore, it has to be good in Snow.

I definitely like that we can get heated leather seats and navigation for like $27k.

Anywho post your opinions.

actually like the Patriot.. and from some of the trail testing pics I've seen, they can do quite well in the snow. I wouldn't trust the stock tires for much, but they seem to be quite capable little SUV's.

I'd like to see my mom getting one as she doesn't hit the trails with her XJ like she used to.

Consumer Reports gave it an okay report. I like them. I would get the all wheel drive with a nice option package were it me, but if you like it, get it. Still reminds me of the XJ too.

Motorweek TV gave the Patriot good reviews, they actually liked it better than the Compass.I was lucky enough to check it out when I was getting an oil change at the dealer.

I think the last issue of Jrations gave it a pretty good review.

looks good ot me, and with some decent winter tires it would do great in the snow and probabayl handle some mild trails , and definitly like dirt roads/unmaintained logging roads

Patriot gets between 21-30 mpg depending on model
used WJ with a V8 gets 15-20

so say its get 40-50% better mpg.

Now take the payment of the new one @27k $659 @8% for 48 months
Say 20k for a used 04wj or 05 Wk: same rate terms $488

Difference of $171 buys a lot of gas...

However the new lifetime warranty is also nice on the Jeeps. Thus, just saying one needs to look at a bit more than mpg in some cases.

I have seen the Trail Rated versions of the Patriot on dealers' lots for about 23K. I even considered buying one in Jeep Green but got a JK instead.

The Patriot can handle some trails and not bleed your wallet.
Check out www.jeeppatriot.com and see what actual owners have to say. They even have some pics of them off-road.

I think it is a good buy for its intended purposes.

He wants better MPG. He won't get that with a Liberty.
I should know, I had one before I got my JK.

Yeah the key is Fuel Mileage, otherwise we would buy an XJ. She loves XJ's. But we cant afford two vehicles that get less than 20MPG.
