new transfer case seal still leaking.?

So I replaced the t case seal. (rear) on my stock 93 yj. 40 and it still leaks a little.. is there a break in period? The yolk that goes in seemed to be in ok shape.... What's the the deal.. its leaking around the shaft.. not the outer seal where it mates the t case.

Is the fluid leaking yellow in color?

Seriously though it sounds like maybe a little grunge was on the yoke when it slid in or possibly pinched the lip of the seal, maybe a nick on the yoke itself? All the transmission seals I've installed because of a leak were immediately resolved except the few cases where I bunged up the seal sliding the yoke in or the yoke itself had a nick that buggered the new seal.

On my 1992 YJ, I replaced the rear seal on my NP231 because it was throwing fluid onto my exhaust. Once it was replaced, it still leaked. I wasn't sure why because I checked the smoothness of the "shaft" before installation. I wound up doing a SYE and that solved the problem for good. No more leaks and no more nasty smell of burning ATF fluid on my exhaust.

Take care,
