new used jeep. temp ????

I just bought a 1988 wrangler. Body and Frame descent. Has a rebuilt motor, new cam, remanufactured head, new clutch. The wires were totally botched up in the dash. I took a cluster out of a newer one. All the gauges work now, but the temp scares me. It will cruise at 70 all day long. the temp goes up to 235ish and drops to 220 within seconds. Radiator is not bubbling over and has a shiny temp sensor. Probably replaced before I got it. It doesn't appear to be overheating. I has a new waterpump, thermostat, and hoses. I don't think it should be running that hot. Radiator Looks very clean.

the normal operating temp for a yj seems to be 195-220. the temp probably reaches 235 and then opens up fully so the temo drops rapidly. maybe the t-stat is sticking though, or maybe it is just a high temp t-stat.

ya, 210 is average 220 ok, you're just on the hi side, not overheating. try changing the thermostat. it might be the wrong one, or just a little sluggish. or coolant is too weak.
