noisy 4.0

New to Jeep '92 5spd. This 4.0 runs pretty decent but is damn noisy. It doesn't knock but rather sounds like a really loud sewing machine (top end noise). The engine has 175k miles on it. I just need to get through the winter and will then drop a reman in. What is the heaviest weight oil which can be safely run in this engine from experience? Thanks.

10W30 or 40. It will just be noisy until it dies and that could be years. Typical of an older motor in a Jeep. Just continue to change regularly and you should be fine.

Some will actually switch over to Rotella which is primarily for deisel but can be used in gas engines.

Get better stereo speakers you won't hear it.
