I hear the cove outside of Winchester has trails. I was told Gambrill state park is another location. That's just fire trails though.

I'm not sure where the cove is but I am familiar with Gambrill as I lived in Frederick, MD for many years. Are the trails in Gambrill for vehicles? If so, where are the trails/fire roads?

This is my black 08 STi and I'm on the fence about trading it in for a new black JKU Altitude. I have no plans to go offroad. I love the iconic status of the Wrangler and have considered it for the first time because of the new comforts and Pentastar. I imagine the smile on my kids' faces with the top off and keep coming back. The lack of handling and power keep me on the fence obviously.

The Cove is right outside of Winchester, VA. It's a $25 land usage fee. I haven't been yet, but I plan on going at some point.

Welcome

I heard about Gambril from someone at the Frederick MD Jeep Club meet up. They meet the first Wednesday of the month and I ended up there for the last meet.

There' also Rausch Creek in PA that's 2-2.5 hours away but it a huge attraction on the East Coast.

We also have some fire trails and rocky trail up by Sleepy Creek out towards Hedgesville. That's just dirt roads and rocks though.

I'm never clear on whether or not wheeling is allowed at the cove. On their site it says only on special event days, yet I hear of people just going whenever.

The Orange trail on their site says Jeep trail and the map mentions Jeep trails. I think there only may be one for 4WD vehicles that aren't ATVs. I guess the best way to find out is to call them.

Yeah I'll give them a shout. They're only 45mins from me.

Just letting you know WF takes a very dim view of wildcatting, all this does is give the treehuggers amunition to use agaist us and to close trails. Believe it or not the treehuggers do check forums for some of their arguments to close down areas.
