Not your usual tire thread

So my XJ will need tires soon.I have Firestone A/T's on her now.Whats another decent tire? I dont want a highway tire, maybe another A/T tire that isnt too aggressive for a dd.remember,Im in upstate N.Y. so I have to deal with snow also.

Did you not like the Destination AT's? Maybe go with the Dueler AT Revo's. They are real nice on the road and great in the mud.

I sure do love mine. Great tire - so much more traction in the wet/nastiness/crap-snow-ice-freezing rain mixes we get around here.

I put the General Grabber II on my Explorer about 2 years ago. They're great in the snow and on rainy roads. They wear really well and have a nice aggresive tread pattern.
I'd buy them again.

I was thinking about the General Grabbers. As far as Duratracs I really dont need anything as aggressive on my dd.Not really sure how aggressive the G.G are.How do they compare as far as aggressive as Duratracs?

I'll second the General Grabber AT2s as a very good tire. I put them on my DD last spring. They have a nice aggressive tread that compares with the BFG All Terrains but with a better price point.

They have very nice road manners, aren't much noisier than the off-brand A/Ts they replaced, and handle light wheeling pretty good IMO. I have over 20K on them now and they don't show tread wear (rotate every 5K). IDK if it matters to you but size is 30x9.5 15s, load range C. YMMV, and invariably will...

Let us know what you get and how you like them.

I checked tire rack & Discount & they dont list the G.G. in my size(2257016) However they do have the Cooper Discoverer AT/3 which looks decent.

I liked my Dueller AT Revos a lot, but I love the Duratracs. The Duratracs do wear well and are quiet.

I've got the Cooper Discoverer ATP (Discount Tire specific from Cooper) in 266/75 16. 2k miles on them and like them so far. They have good tread pattern that is hwy friendly, but mild off road friendly also. Having been a huge fan Nitto Terra Grapplers in the past, I'm liking the ATP'S more so far.

After spending 4 days in the "epic" North Texas ice storm of 2013, I loved their performance even more. I'm one of few North Texans that doesn't let the weather keep in, and also one of few that should even be out. Quite the entertaining few days.

I decided on them because I didnt find anyone who had anything bad to say about them.Although the General's seem to be good also.

Good to see your follow up report, thanks for chiming back in!

And I'll give another 2 thumbs up to the General Grabber AT2 that I run. They handle so much better than the off brand AT tire I replaced last spring.

Another update. We just got hit with about 20" of snow on top of what we already have.I get a text from my good friend who has a JKU,2" BB & Duratracs. He got himself stuck in the snow/ice.So I go see if I can help with my XJ with the new Coopers.Hes up this long dirt rd and at the end of it a parking lot.He managed to get his rf down off a ice ledge & is stuck halfway up the doors in the snow ice. After about 45min to an hour I manage to get him out.It wasent easy but the parking lot was all ice.The guy who was trying to help was amazed how well these tires did.I was very impressed.
