NP213 question WITH PICS!!!

Its been a while since I rebuilt a STOCK (not SYE) NP231

Am I correct in believing that the oil pump splines on the output shaft are held closer (in better contact) after the Tcase is together and the snap ring in place?

In my first pic, the splines in the oil pump BARLEY stay in contact with the output shaft.

In the second pic, the shaft is lifted and the snap ring is installed, holding the output shaft in place.

And the third pic peeking through the speedo hole at the gear fully engauged.

Im trying to remember, is this normal? Its been 5 years since I did this for a dealership, and i am doubting myself...

This is out of a '90 YJ

Having been in biz, don't you have access to the coveted shock manual?
