Got and gave my first wave while on my test drive yesterday. I will cherish that moment.

My parents full time RV and when they came back to MI this summer I was driving us all to dinner in their 12 JK. I've known of the wave from my father and friends with Jeeps but forgot I was in one when driving. Hopefully he saw it at the last second when I remembered... Something I'll have to get used to now that I'm getting a 95 YJ.

We did a 4 hour topless ride today. I think I was 0 for 11 on the return wave. It was like all the other Jeepers were caught up in their own little world and seemed to not even be aware that anyone else was out on the roads.

I did get a nice sunburn out of the trip.

Here in the City, most do not return waves. It is so bad that you forget about it? 4hour top down drive sounds fun!

Waved all day today, I would say 90% waved back. I like in Saginaw MI, loving the jeep wave. When I don't get one back gotta say I'm a little disappointed in the other driver

Jeep wave probability

So I'm a few months into owning my first Jeep, but I've been aware of the Jeep wave for almost 20yrs, ever since my buddy got one when we were 16. I've been waving to every other Wrangler I see, and I've discovered that there seems to be specific groups that you just don't get the wave back from.

The first group: women. No offense to the women on this forum- you're obviously aware of the wave, and give it back. But not ONE woman I have given the Jeep wave to has waved back. I mean, I'm ugly, but not that ugly!

The second group: rich people. And I know I'm making an assumption about whether or not the driver is rich, but hear me out. I live in a middle class neighborhood, and get the wave back around here (except from the girls....lol), but I happen to work in the Hamptons on Long Island, which is where very affluent people live. I have the same record there as I do with the women.....NOBODY waves back!!

What's the link here? Has anybody else noticed this? I hate feeling like a chump waving, and getting left hanging!! However, my wife loves laughing at how fired up I get when I don't get a wave back...

Hit or miss on the wave. I personally have been side to side with other jeeps and forget to wave sometimes. Don't take it personally.

Yeah it's called the official jeep wave thread. And my parents live in a pretty high class zone, and every time I'm there I never get waved. I think 90% of the jeepers there scoff at my loud exhaust and mods. And the fact that my tires are covered in mud, not wax.

Its a jeep thing, and some of those owners just bought an SUV... it just happened to be a jeep. Anyone involved in the "culture" gets it and waves back. Yesterday with my doors off I gave the Harley style wave out the side and the lady coming at me kinda panicked. I don't think she had a clue what was going on and thought I was point at the ground or her tires, or something! I still wave at them all and I make my wife when she drives...

I'm a few month owner as well and i noticed wave from only jk owners, i don't know why but older generation jeep owners never waved or looked at my side ever. I thought they would be the first people who supports waving.
Please explain if im wrong

JK isn't a real jeep until the new jeeps come out..then it will be a jeep and you can join in hating on all the "not a real jeep" owners .

FYI only wave I've got so far was FROM a woman (well actually I've gotten two waves from two women but one works for me so that doesn't count).

I pass out waves to anyone I notice (sometimes in the morning with a hangover, some of you slip past me, no lie).

I have about 1 in 3 results. These include any Jeep from the original Willy's through the CJ's, and all wrangler models.

I have noticed that Cherokees are less reliable, but if it is obviously modded, they are normally pretty good.

Two days ago a little old lady in a Liberty waved at me - I don't normally wave at liberty's because they never pan out.. but she was on the ball, I was impressed.

Generally the more the mods the better the chances, however at least in my area (middle class up to richy-bitchy) 1 in 3 return the wave. This has included a few of the soccer moms in their stocker JK's. One got really excited that I waved at her and was waving like a mad idiot back at me, that was fun.

A young dude in a doors off CJ practically crawled out on his rock rails hanging his whole upper body out and give me one of these

So for the ones that drive by, whatever... Maybe they know, maybe they don't... Maybe they are hungover like me. I don't judge. But they are going to get the wave from me again on tomorrows commute, and some day they'll figure it out.

Interesting. I thought i had a real jeep. Lol
BTW, all the waves i got from jk owners were from modded ones, stock jeeps have zero attention.

Soccer moms don't wave.
The more stock a Jeep is, the less chance of a wave.
Top off, better chance, doors off too? Much better chance.
Lift and big tires? Even better chance of getting a return wave.
I had my 1st Jeep in 1980, a 1963 Willys CJ5. Every Jeep would wave.

DO NOT WAVE AT CHEROKEES, LIBERTYS, COMPASSES or even Wagoneers.
They are NOT real Jeeps.

Yep....HappyJKU is spot on.

Most females and 4DR JK with no mods hardly ever wave. Of course there are always exceptions, but those groups are notorious for it. It makes you wonder what's going through their head when they see a gazillion Jeep drivers waving at them...do they just think they're hot or something?

Back in the early 90s when I got my first Jeep, there weren't that many on the road. Only certain types of people would even consider buying a Jeep. Now it seems like every 4th car I pass is a JK Unlimited and I can barely keep my hands on the wheel while waving to everyone. Given its' popularity today, maybe the jeep wave is overkill?

Maybe you're making a huge assumption that they are even noticing that... Don't forget - your average driver on their average day doesn't give a damn about any other driver in any other car... They are on drone autopilot taking the kids to the next thing.

Its not that they see you and don't wave, its that they are in orbit around saturn, wondering when their sexless marriage is going to fall apart and doing their best to keep the kids happy.

Never assume that any specific person in the world gives a damn what YOU are doing (Except the NSA, of course).

Oh brother...people like THAT^ (not you Kurt) driving Wranglers is what is causing the dilution of Jeep culture. Oh well, times are changing....us old folks will still recognize each other and wave!

I'm a female and I always wave when waved at. I'll rarely initiate, but always reciprocate. Unless, of course, I happen to miss it...

I get waves from every single older wrangler, and probably about 3 out of 5 JK's. I get waves from girls when they drive them as well just as often as I do with guys.

I find myself initiating the wave 1/2 the time. I see about 5-10 wranglers a day, and I only drive about 10 miles a day

If their whole life is a mess, but they can find solace and a shred of manhood in their jeep, then let em keep driving them.

As a side note, I've noticed women usually wave at me. Men seem to only wave when I'm alone. If my husband is in the passenger seat, I rarely get a wave. Are men afraid to wave if there's a man riding shotgun?

Its not the Jeep culture thats changing... Its the country. There are a lot fewer people living the American dream, and a lot more people trying to shovel through the American nightmare.

I don't get people... They gotta have all this stuff, they gotta show that their kids are in all the right activities, they just shovel it all away, and their soul dies 45 years before their body stops walking around.

But, that is what A LOT of people do. And then they drive around spaced out in their car waiting for death to sweep them away. No goals other than owning more crap than the neighbors...
