They should tell you the rules at the stealership. It might be a selling
point to let people know they are joining an exclusive club.
Just bought mine and the dealer told me to practice what he called the "Wrangler wave". He then told my wife about the hierarchy of waves. She thought it was hilarious.

I'm too much of a newbie to know any better so I just wave at everybody. I'm having too much fun driving to worry about who waves back.

I'm in Westchester & rarely get a wave. Go upstate or into Connecticut & almost everyone waves.

I like to wave, but sometimes, due to my driving style, I'm looking at the traffic that would directly affect me, and not on the other side of the divider, so, if I've missed you, my apologies.

Being from Long Island, you do not get too many waves on the road... lol

However, took my JK upstate to Lake George and got a nice amount of waves. Thought that was cool until I went to Virginia a few weeks later... every Jeep that passed threw up the wave. Pretty cool.

I bought my first jeep a few weeks ago. I noticed immediately that people waved at me. I come from a small town where everyone gets the old man farmer wave driving thru town, so naturally it made me feel good. I picked right up and started waving myself. My wife was giving me a hard time one day asking me if I somehow knew the people I was waving at. She then started keeping score of people who waved back vs people that didn't. It actually now ruffles my feathers when I don't get a return wave. I drive thru 3 different cities on my way to work and there is one area in particular that the wave average goes down. Freakin yuppies. And I do have to say that I really appreciate the dude I pass most mornings the throws his arm full out the window and doesn't just raise a finger or two. That is a freakin wave man!

As a new JKU owner, I've attempted to educate my wife about the Jeep wave; she's told me that if I say "Jeep wave" one more time...then she attempted to tell me she was going to create an "Element wave" for her Honda Element (a fine vehicle in it's own right) - I don't think it's going to catch on.

So another ultimate Jeep wave! I was behind a school bus (looked like a high school football team). First waves from the back of the bus looking out the bus emergency door. Than as I passed they waved out of the side windows.

I don't get a lot of waves but most people around here can't drive with both hands on the wheel let alone just one.

I've actually found the opposite in my area. Younger guys know the wave, older guys ignore/don't know it.

Women also don;t seem to grasp the concept.

i agree with the above poster that they should tell everyone about the wave before they drive off the lot of a dealership. Seems to be mostly newer jeeps that do it.

I'm upstate in Newburgh (according to anyone in the city who thinks north of the Tappen Zee is upstate) and don't get many waves here either.

So to pass time in my commute today, I un-scientifically conducted an experiment to determine if there was any factual data to support my theory that one city I pass thru has the most unfriendly jeep wavers. I previously haven't mentioned city names as to not get flamed, but here goes.
Dallas - waved at 4 and had 3 returned
Plano - waved at 18 and had 2 returned
Frisco - waved at 2 and had 2 return returned

Based on the numbers I'm guessing the 2 in Plano that waved back, were probably driving thru and were from Dallas or Frisco. Also to control the experiment I drove on the inside most lane of traffic and had the top and doors off so my jeep stood out a bit. Conclusion... I'm very bored on my drive home.

Neighbor across the alley got a new/used Jeep recently and was complaining about all the waves he gets and asked what was up with it. Lol

Well I drive a JKU and I wave to all Jeeps. Don't care if it's clean or dirty or raised or stock 2 or 4 door.

I try. But the farther away from the city, the harder I try. In the city waving can get you some weird looks. Sorry if I missed any waves.
