I used to wave to everyone, but that all ended when i was broke down on 80 West and like 20 jeeps cruzed on by and not one asked if i needed a hand. i used to always stop and always ask a fellow jeeper in distress if they needed a hand. i carry a lot of tools and parts in my jeep and have helped and even given people parts or a tool (vice grips lol the tool of the gods) if needed, (unless it was a JK) and what did i get in return ZERO ZILCH NODDA.

If you wouldn't help a JK, then it must be karma that no one stopped to help you.

Had my new rig for a week now. Passed one Wrangler a day, at least. Models vary, but I've waved to each and every one of them. Nothing yet... I won't give up though. One thing I've seen, at least from spending the last few months reading through this forum, is that there are a lot of good Jeepers out there. Everyone on here seems so incredibly supportive, friendly, and positive. Those are the folks I hope I'm waving to...

If there are any fellow travelers cruising the Twin Cities north metro and you see some idiot in a 2014 JK Unlimited Sport in granite waving... Wave back!

Okay, after posting the smiley I realized that he needed a Jeep hat to make it an "Official Jeep Wave"...

Seriously, nobody waves here in Utah, so it's not a problem. I think because if you ain't driving a Subaru you're in a JKU. Don't think those folks get it.
Florida was different about 80% wave factor.

Exclamation The Wave

It seems these days that the only jeeps that wave back are the ones that are trail hardened or the old men that have the pre CJ jeeps. The new jeeps are almost becoming a fashion statement. They don't even have any parking lot dings. I still wave at every jeep that deserves it (has been on a trail more than once). I wanted to know how many people still wave and what the requirements some people have to wave to a passing jeep. Thanks just want some input from some fellow jeepers.

I am recent to Jeep ownership, heard that you are supposed to wave so I do and I get a lot of waves back here in Chicagoland from Jeep owners. Getting a wave is definitely not common amongst the Chicagoans, so I think the Jeep wave is a serious statement. I would agree that you don't get waves much from people in their gansta jeeps who just think they are 'cool'.

I wave at every jeep. About 80% of 2 door jeep drivers wave back, only 50% of JKU do so. Not sure why.

I didn't bother waving to a JK today. She was too busy texting while driving to notice any other jeeps anyway.

a true Jeep wave

A true dedicated jeeper. Thank you for waving back. 5 degrees out hand out the window, no gloves and driving 40 mph.

Thanks to everyone who waves and Merry Christmas!

I agree. Very few waves here in Utah. I try to wave at them all. If they wave great, if not, oh well.

I think people in central IL need some education. I get about 25-30% of the people that wave back. Some are paying attention to phones, etc.

After 9 months, it is frustrating

Why you no wave fellow jeepers?

Here in the Orlando area the only Jeepers that wave are those of us that have modified our Jeeps. If I see a stock JK or JKU I won't wave because they never even look my direction; they are usually either a mom with kids in the back or a middle-aged guy who just wanted a cool "car".

Every owner of a modified Jeep I come across, no matter how small the modification may be (and it may be as small as actually taking the top off), will wave/wave back. Doesn't matter if its a JK/JKU, TJ, YJ or CJ - they all wave.

Same in NM. Nobody waves in places where you actually need a Jeep.

When I was on the Rubicon Trail everybody waved. Maybe we didn't need Jeeps there and should have been driving a minivan?

In St. Augustine I get 50/50 wave backs ... I went up the road to my in laws side of town in Julington Creek and just about every single person waved. Even the 4 door JKU moms! I was quite impressed by that

My experience. Almost everyone waves here in Toledo Ohio. I recently visited a friend in Bend Oregon. Beautiful place with LOTS of Jeeps but no one waves. Not one person ( maybe one ) waved no matter if I waved first. They never even look to see if you're driving a Jeep.

It's not just soccer moms. They sometimes wave in Toledo. Out west seems a different story at least in Bend Oregon which is mostly upper middle class. Maybe no one out there waves because they don't know any better. Maybe they aren't on the forums but you'd think they would instinctively know to acknowledge other Jeeps ( CJ, YJ, TJ, Jk etc.

I have to agree! Have had my JK for 1 month now and NOBODY WAVES! They won't even wave back!

Then again - am still running a stock JK but not for long!

I drive up and down Parley's 6 days a week - drive through Heber - NOTHING! Haven't driven much at all in the valley though.

Smile How do you like my Jeep Wave Video?

I wanted to know how the Jeep wave started so I did some research on it and made a video. Do you think it is accurate?

Point system? Newest first? hrmm ok... that's 2 min I'll never get back... I'll just wave to any I see. If I don't get a wave back, meh... oh well...
Great job on the video though, very well done.

Awesome video. I think it's important to acknowledge traditions and to keep them alive. Being from the country, everyone waves. But now that I live in the 'burbs and work in the city, only people that have something in common wave.
