Wave

So a couple of States worth of observation..... In Vermont, the majority of the Jeep owners (real Jeeps, not Cherokees, Libertys, etc.) will wave stock or lifted. In Northern NY the wave is returned about 50% of the time, usually by 2-door Wranglers. The 4 -door owners are hit and miss. As a former 2 dr now 4dr owner... I wave to all....

I've been spending the past week in Northern Illinois and the jeep wave back percentage has been very high. Something I've observed here...I've been waved at from ALL JKs, 2 dr and 4 dr, and the only ones that haven't waved back are TJs, but only 2 of those. Happy to report that I'm running about 90-95% waves (has been sunny, mid 70s and top down so that is definitely playing a part)...it's those TJs that are letting me down. I've been driving around my parents and my sister and they have fallen in love with Jeeps now and really get a kick out of the jeep wave. My mom is convinced I have the coolest car in town. She is 70 and I am 40, but I feel like a teenager again.

Glad to see that you've had a good response in Vermont. If you ever pass me I'll wave....but I passed three wranglers on the way home today. Two were all modified and they looked at me like I was crazy and the other was stock and it was a girl Operator and unfortunately they don't wave here in Vermont (my experience). Maybe it's cause mine is still mostly stock but go to Maine and all the wrangler owners wave!

Over her In Jay-Pan, I have received a wave 100% of the time from the Americans, but have yet to receive a wave from the locals. I am going to keep on waving to all. Hell most of us Americans are just extremely happy to see another Wrangler of any kind that the wave almost looks like we are having an epileptic seizure behind the wheel.

Hello all, this is my first post. I bought an 03 yellow wrangler about 3 months ago and my wife loved it so much she went and bought a 2010 4-door.

I warned her about the waving thinggy and now shes ticked because no one will wave back.

We just got back from Gatlinburg TN vacation. It was funny, we rented condo for the week and when we arrived all the doors (6 of them off two jeeps), the hard top off mine, and the rear cargo carriers all went in my bedroom. It wasn't easy but we managed.

There were jeeps all over the place up there and only one out of ten would wave back. It got annoying to me but I kept on waving.

Keep waving, tell your wife to keep waving, some of us and most everybody on here WILL wave back, Come to Va Beach for a vacation sometime this year and you'll see a white city truck hauling a trailer, #141297, the driver will be waving at Jeeps, cause the driver is ME

I have found in the nice weather that those with the soft tops down or hard tops off will always wave. Those who still have their hard top on in 80+ degree weather don't wave much.

Most people in 4dr Wranglers don't wave, so most of the time the rest of us don't even look at them anymore. Hang in there...

to quote someone else from this board:

"The wave is an acknowledgement that we don't follow the mainstream, drive cars like everyone else and don't depend on roads to be maintained, we go where and when we want regardless of weather or conditions"

The above is the best description of The Wave that i have seen. When i got my jeep, the wave was just a natural instinct that i started doing without being told or with out seeing others wave to me first. It just felt right.

Where I live, in Southern California, women jeep drivers, and most 4 door jeeps dont wave. Why, i dont know, but they done. Simple put, they just dont get it. If you get it, keep on waving to all wranglers and to hell with everyone else. If you dont get it, then no harm no foul, to each their own. So if you get it, and it feels right, Wave.

I always wave above the steering wheel when my top is on and when the top is down and the doors are off I wave out the door like I do on my motorcycle.

Gotta say, I've got a 4 door and wave to everyone. There are many unlimited owners though that bought a Jeep as their family hauler only to replace their minivan and have no clue about the wave. Keep waving, you'll find the love.

As a "woman jeep driver", I take offense to that! Waved with my first Wrangler, wave with my current Wrangler, and plan to keep on waving until I am too old to climb up into it anymore.

If anything, I have a harder time getting "the boys" to wave back. Maybe you guys are intimidated?!?! (just kidding!)

I am finding that the TJ's and YJ's wave back more often when I have my doors and windows off. I used to boat and ride a motorcycle so when a jeeper waved at me I knew why. I think its really cool and I go out of my way to keep the tradition and camaraderie going. Also I have fellow jeepers where I work. Although I have never met them, we park next to each other when we can. Sometimes I will go to the parking lot and have 4 to 5 Wranglers around mine. I will always park further away if I can park next to a fellow Jeeper.

Well I too have a JK and I seem to experence the samething.

with that being said I continue to to wave regardless. From time to time I get one back.

It takes time for the newer Wranger owners to be accepted. The new YUPPIE movment folks have no clue that owning a Jeep Wranger is a "Way of Life" a "State of Being" The old saying "IT'S A JEEP THING" means nothing to them.

But I LOVE my JK. I will keep waving and as the commercial says.

"I LIVE, I RIDE, I AM" JEEP

Ditto! You are a fellow jeeper after my own heart! Isn't it wonderful? I drive out of my way to park near one and gawk at their mods and hope for a chance to catch them and spark a conversation! Nothin' else like it!

LOL!!!

But seriously folks, they all say "Jeep" on 'em. Show some love. Remember, that poor 4-door you wave at is having to haul around their yuppie a$$ and deserves some honor in its shameful reality. Make the JEEP itself smile, if only for a moment...

This is one of the most annoying topics on the board. I just got a 4DR Wrangler, and love being a part of the community, but I can't stand the lack of love for the wave to us. I agree that there are definitely more 4DR people who don't wave, because I see people not wave myself, but I still think it's rude that some 2 door jeeps just don't even care about 4DR. There are plenty of us who care, and it bothers me that we get a bad reputation. Our Jeep does just what your Jeep does, and we have more room, stop hating .

the wave is all but dead in my area. the only time you can expect to get waves is when it is a nice day and all the jeeps have the doors and tops off. i do however try to wave when i think about it but i dont always wave and its not personal. maybe im having a bad day or maybe i just dont see you. but i do notice that not 1 single girl has ever waved back to me... maybe they think im trying to flirt with them

oh yea and the 4dr jk's are even harder to get a wave from. i drive a 4dr jk myself... but that doesnt mean i dont try to wave.

I'm a 100% waver at all times, good day or bad. I tend to not ever feel like I'm having a bad day when I'm driving the Jeep. With that said, I understand if you're not paying attention, and you don't see someone wave, but if it's a wrangler, it doesn't matter what year, model, color, anything, I wave back. I think it's fun, and makes everyone else around you jealous that they can't wave to anyone when they are in their car.

I hope I have not offended any 4-doors. It was not my intent. It is just my preference.

I wave to everyone, even the 4-doors. I realize there are some good guys out there...just not in my area.

Like I have said before, RESPECT ALL JEEPS--4-doors, cherokees, compasses, etc. At least they are not Fords. :>
