I seem to only wave at the older and or lifter Jeeps. The people who drive the newer Jeeps just kinda give me that confused look. But hey.....whatever...how ya doin?

i wave @ all Wranglers (it's doubtful i can tell the difference between JK, TJ, WTH and YJ when they stand still, let alone when then swoosh by..) so far i had about a 80% return rate, my 7yr old son loves it and waves as well. we by the way just throw the peace sign \/ (also the first letter of our last name so that's how i wave in general

New to Jeeps, had my TJ for exactly a week, and I can report almost everyone initiates, or at least returns, the wave, with the exception of the JK. Not a single wave initiated or returned from a JK. Everyone in a CJ/YJ/TJ waves, except a few in the 4 cylinder TJ's with the pizza cutter tires and rusty steel stock rims.

Here in Texas I would say it's been 85% wave back from TJs and prior. But it could possibly be from the general understanding that your both sweating your off by choice. It's hot!

Now JKs, I still wave but usually unless their modded to some degree I get nothing back....but I still keep waving.

Its a two finger out the door if the windows down or a couple fingers off the steering wheel if not.

Love the wave, but...

I'm brand new to Jeeps, about 3 weeks in, but I have to say, "the wave" is one of the things I look forward to the most when I head out in my TJ. Having said that, I am really hoping I eventually lose that terrible nervous feeling when I see one coming down the road and then the inevitable disappointment when they, more than likely, don't wave back! Doesn't matter, though, I'll still keep waving!!

Converted one yesterday I think----very open, long angled intersection. New yellow JK with softop down---2 young ladies in it (coulda been 16-coulda been 30 something) off to my left, I waved as they got stopped by the light. No response. Left turn lanes cycle through, I start across intersection and a black JKU lifted/ modded starts coming toward me I wave, he waves back---the girls in the Jeep start honking the horn and waving, bouncing around in their Jeep, looking at both of us. The guy in the JKU and I were both laughing.

IDK maybe they only waved 'cause it was a mod JKU--but it was funny watching everyone else's reaction.

Leaving the Red Sox game yesterday, unbelievable Boston traffic, middle of a double-header, 35,000 people leaving the first game while 35,000 people are coming into the second game, stop and go traffic, detours, horns blaring, I'm worried because my temp gauge is showing a little hot and my oil pressure is showing a little low, and it's 4:30, so you've got the normal rush-hour added to the mix, and I don't see the TJ full of college kids pass me. They all start beeping and yelling, and one yells, "Hey D.B., you forgot to wave!!!" So I do, but a little embarassed, because I NEVER forget to wave...

The wave

Its definatly a Jeep tradition to wave. I was in the military, Drove through PA, DE, MD, VA the wave goes far. I give everyone the benifit of the doubt and initiate a wave. I also ride a motorcycle, same thing goes. Cruiser or rice burner its all in the family. Many older people in the new 4 door wranglers dont know what it about. I think Wrangler salesmen should instruct people to wave lifted or not, The Jeep tradition/family is great.

It's an off road thing, not a Jeep thing.
I have a new license plate holder on my stock 2011 Sahara- does that count as a mod?

I love when someone waves that you were just thinking "aw jeeze I'm gonna be let down AGAIN by someone" and then they actually wave! It's especially great when they initiate it! I picked up my jeep from the shop yesterday after not having it for 12 whole days and I saw an older lady coming down main street in a yj and she waved first across 3 lanes of traffic and a median! It made my day! lol
