Forget being a Jeep thing at all, if someone waves at me, I wave back, its just the right thing to do if you happen to be a friendly person.

Generally, folks around here do wave but just yesterday I see this nice looking (modded) TJ up ahead and after a few traffic lights, it turns out that I wound up next to him. Obviously we are only a few feet apart and he looks at me as I am looking at his TJ so I give him an appreciative nod AND a wave (bonus, eh?). That DB literally just turns away and waits for the light to change with this look on his face like he's some kinda tough guy. Wow, really brah? The only things that made me feel better about it were a) I'm not him and b) his nice looking TJ sounded like it was about to fall apart as he pulled away while my (apparently too weak for a wave) JK was purring like a kitten and rock solid (I also had more mud on mine than his...must have missed cleaning some after last weekend's wheeling). I'll be sure to give him another Jeep wave when I see him broken down on the trail (inevitable based on the sound of his rig) and then I'll just keep on wheelin. Karma brother!

namasste - I'm surprised he didn't come barreling out of his jeep, rip his shirt off and scream, "Come at me, Bro!!"

Come to indy I'll wave to you, I don't care what kind of jeep you drive, they are all family to me. Next time you pull up next to the guy at a light that doesn't wave give em a hug, clearly they need it.

Remember brothers don't shake hands, brothers gotta hug......I really miss Chris Farley

Was cruising with two other people in the vehicle today. Oddly we were the only topless one around town (I guess because the temp dropped so much at night) and all three of us...full arm out waves at all the jeeps. For the first time...I got a fresh 8/8 waves from tj and jk models! Good day!

I'm yet to get a wave this year. I give them the benifit of the doubt that they cant see me wave with my top on. But hoping the top comes off today, going to be kinda warm but windy so we'll see.

3 for 3 yesterday and 1 for 2 today. And 2 of the wavers were female! Usually I scare them off...maybe its because my wife was with me.

Wink Lesson For Jeepers

1.) To encourage JK owners new to JEEPIN'
2.) To inform/ remind PRE-JK owners not all JK owners are clueless.

I have my "old" standard TJ, nothing extreme and about the biggest true "performance MOD" is the OME lift. I get about a 99% return from TJs and earlier and about 70% from JKs when driving RED. (the TJ)

When we are in the JK which is bone stock (and will be for quite a while) suddenly the return from pre-JK years is about 30% WTH??

Honestly the JK is probably a better performance rig than my TJ but it doesn't seem to get the respect? I don't get it, but I we will keep waving.

Did get a good one the other day, YJ looked like about 4" of lift on 35's going past, could hear the tires before he was even close and was looking "up into" his windshield, dropped arm out driver's side door, his fingers come up off the wheel, he is followed closely by a bright RED JKU (that I almost missed lookin' at the YJ)--sittin' up high rock crawler bumpers, woman driver--smilin' wavin' before I even saw her.

So it was a "two-fer", wonder if the JK was the YJ's SO?

Days like that make me smile....
Enjoyed your post for two reasons;
1) You have TWO Jeeps and can realistically compare the performance and ride of each model. I had a 93 YJ, and now have a new JK Rubicon, and can honestly say that the Rubi is a much more comfortable ride AND blows the doors off other rides off road - stock - right off the show room floor. My new jeep has what it takes to run off-road on trails. I am very happy with it. ONE big problem with the old YJ was that it was a miserable ride on the expressway, and living in Chicago I have a 8 to 12 hour drive to get into some mountains out East to West or up into the UP! I remember taking the YJ up into the UP off of Lake Superior one winter for a X-C Ski Trip and the snow was coming in where the top snapped in place in front and the side curtains popped open and our ski's fell out of the jeep! I loved that jeep when we got where we were going, but it was a miserable ride getting there. The new Rubi does it all for me!!
2) We all need to stick together and wave, no need to be stuck-up and discriminate against each other. If I could do it, I would have one of each in every color! I would love to have a Rescue Green Modified Rubi to match my Deep Cherry Red one. And what's not to like about the old Deep Canyon Blue YJ I used to own? Mabey a Dozer Orange one for Sunday and a Yellow one for the beach!

Where I live, one of the town vehicles is a red TJ and it's the same guy driving it all the time. I wave to him but he never waves back. I know he may not be a true Jeeper, but one of my goals is to get him to wave. It's getting to the point where I'm very obvious when I wave too. Sigh, perseverance...

Me and my buddies made fools of ourselves with the wave. Hands out trying to get this black jk to wave -_- he was texting and we ended up holding the light up. People honked and we sulked away...

Freedom panels off today. Gave three waves straight up and got two back. I think the third guy was realizing that his could come off because he looked up after seeing me

I'm new to SoCal, and new to having a jeep.

I sold an S2000 to buy the jeep, and I found that every other S2000 owner always waved as they passed.
I half expected it with the jeep owners, especially after reading some of the "Wave" post.

I have made an effort to wave at all wrangelrs on the road, and NONE have taken a second out of their day to wave back. I figured that it was snooty SoCal drivers, but yesterday I was being followed by a '11 JKU with a 2.5" lift. Otherwise it appeared stock.

As we sat at a red light, a JK with a 2.5" lift came towards us. He looked at me as I waved and then he looked past me and waved at the guy behind me. WTF!
Then I realized that I was bone stock (brand new) and the other guy had a slight change to his jeep. I didn't realize that it made a difference, but I am finding out that you have to do a mod or two to fit in.
Seemed weird but if that is the way it is, I'll keep my hands inside the ride at all times.

In the last two months and 3500 miles of owning my Jeep I have noticed the wave verys from owner to owner and there are pretty much four categories of wavers.

-The "ignore it" (JK and TJ owners) group
-The "awkward facial expression" group (not sure if it's from me waving and they have no idea why or the fact that I'm Asian, driving an American vehicle, listening to Rammstein, Disturbed, Rob Zombie etc etc...)
-The "general" wave group
-The "all out wave ie fist pump, thumbs up, whiplash wave, and Tebow (yes the guy "Tebow'd" and yes he was an older JK owner ) wave" group

The last group makes for a great chuckle and keeps things entertaining.

Don't get discouraged about being all stock and it doesn't matter about being modded or stock... I tend to think about the same thing since mine looks like a "poser" with it's periscope and no lift. I think about 50% or less tend to wave back haha.

After owning my jeep for about 2 months this is what I've realized. While driving on base, every single jeep waves back. I drive about 400 yards from work to get off the base and during this 1 min drive I got 3 waves yesterday. As soon as you go out in town down here in the hampton roads area of VA, it's still not too bad. I get a lot of retruned waves, except from women or guys in suits in JKU's talking on their phones.

So What...
If some of these knuckle heads don't wave back - so what...
I just try to wave. Most of the time, folks just do not see me wave when I am driving in the city. It is still fin to wave, and fun to get a wave back once in a while.

As far a mods go, do if you want to , when it makes sense for you. It does not make much sense to mod a brand new jeep. I have a Rubicon so it seems to have 32" tires and a lot of standard features others would want as mods. I may add a slight lift and 33 or 34 in tires later, but I am concerned about the ride on expressways and all the guys with lifts seem to have froint end issues - see death wobble stream....

Just to put this out there.....not all JK drivers are non-waving jack@sses....
I drive a JK, it's not lifted, & I wave. I get maybe a 50% return, but hey, it doesn't hurt my feelings. I don't consider myself to be a Jeep snob.

Would I like it to be lifted with new bumpers? Absolutely, but money constraints deny me that joy right now. One day, maybe....sigh.

I drive a JKU. I wave to all Wranglers and haven't noticed a difference in returned waves pre/post mods (lift, tires, stubby bumper). However, you take the doors/top off and the precentage of returned waves goes way up!

I'm planning on getting a bumper sticker that says don't forget to wave. Or maybe a spare tire cover. I love the wave. Me and my friends are always on the looks for another wrangler. I will also wave at modded cherokee's or one that sends me a wave first.
