I've noticed that JK owners are that worst about not waving, and I think it is because they appeal to people who would not have purchased a Jeep before they came out. In other words, some stock JKs are nice enough that soccer moms are buying them now and don't know anything about the Jeep culture. Modded JK owners usually know whats up though, so I always wave at lifted ones. TJs, YJs, and CJs always get the wave and 99% return or initiate it.

The wave isn't about expecting one back. A new Jeep owner in a JK, TJ, YJ or CJ is never going to know about or understand the Jeep wave if everyone comes up with a reason why they shouldn't wave at them. The fact that JKs appeal to soccer moms means that more people are driving Jeeps. Not sure how that ends up being a bad thing.

I myself notice that JK's usually don't wave, and that they are getting a lot of crap from us jeepers. But every time a new jeep came out, the previous generation jeep owners hated on them too. But now YJ and TJ are accepted and favorites of most jeepers. Eventually we will all accept the JK's. I don't have the money but if I did, heck I would buy one. They really knew what they were doing when they built the JK. Anyways just what I think, but I will still agree that it annoys me that people are buying the new JK's just as a DD or something completely different than what they are intended for.

But I ultimately have fun in mine everyday....it hasn't been off road much....just the beach & it's my daily driver. I don't consider it a waste of my $ & I always wave.

Looking at the 2012 JK with its car-like interior and a bunch of modern options, Jeep is obviously trying to attract a larger audience including daily drivers and soccer Moms. It seems to be working.

I wave at, at get waves from, almost everybody in all models including JKs.

You are missing the point about a Jeep. Every owner can make a Jeep their very own... if that is for a DD or to go off road it doesn't matter or both it doesn't matter. I'm going to have to be critical here and say... "its a Jeep thing and I don't think YOU understand" don't you think you are being as big of a snob as those you consider a snob for not waving? A Jeep is about having fun... so... LETS HAVE SOME FUN!!!!

I was actually defending the JK's. But really why would you make a jeep that is geared for offroad with all terrain tires and Dana axles and 4 wheel drive with a rollbar and many other things stock...why would you have that as a DD and not take it offroad ONCE??

Jeep thing and you folks that don't wave unless it's lifted or modified, your frickin' snobs! I have a 2011 JKU and I wave to everybody, just like I did with my '97 Wrangler. I have mods done, doesn't matter though. There is also a motorcycle wave. I have '99 Heritage that's bad ass and I wave to scooters! It's more about somebody else who enjoys life the way you do vs. just being a jerk off!

I have the opposite problem, I drive a 12 JKU and the other JKU's seem more willing to wave, its the previous models who look down their noses at me like "oh its one of those Soccer Mom Jeeps I'm way too cool to wave at one of those"

Just two today.....a detonator yellow lifted JKU and my dog's obedience trainer, who just purchased a brand new black JKU.....of course asked me about the wave & I was more than happy to educate him. Another one converted

I didn't say I wouldn't wave at you! I always wave even at JKs. I'm just saying that JK owners very seldom wave back in my experience.

I'm definitely not the type that only waves to other modded Jeeps. I wave to all Wranglers regardless of generation; however, it is noticing who waves back that is the issue. In my experience, modded Jeeps almost always wave back. YJ and TJ owners regardless of mods are the second most frequent return-wavers, and non-modded JK owners wave back the least amount of the time. I don't look down my nose at anyone regardless of mods. In fact, when I see an un-modded Jeep, I look at it like an untouched piece of clay ready to be molded into something amazing lol I do feel bad for some of them though like they are neglected children who have been tossed aside by their owners. Especially the ones I see that are actually lowered! (yes I said it) with big stupid thug-life rims and low profile tires. I wish there was a law that covered Jeep-abuse like this so we could throw these people in jail.

I tend to think geography DEFINITELY comes into play with the wave. To me, its a neighborly gesture. You may not have your street address or town in common, but your have your vehicle in common. SOMETHING in common, which probably represents other common interests as well.

I think it is important to wave, and KEEP waving at the new jeep owners to help them realize that they are part of a good natured and like minded community.
