i wave to all cj's, yj's, tj's, and any lifted cherokee's, grands, commanders etc. even though i live in jersey i actually live in the sticks. aut by me they all wave back, but when i get out toward the city they look at me like i hve six heads. then they filp me off, but that could be b/c this is jersey and that is almost like how we greet people here.

we dont need help, we are just in a hurry. just get outta the way and you'll be fine. Do you know how hard it is to drive with one hand out the window giving the finger, the other firmly placed on the horn and some other hand (we dont even know where it comes form) holding our cell phone?

I had the mother of all jeep waves yesterday. A soccer mom driving a 4-door unlimited initiated the wave. I almost swerved off of the road trying to get my hand up to wave back.

I was traveling to work the other day and waved to a guy who passes me every morning. He gothas a nicely set up Rubi. Well any way he pulled his finger from his nose, flicked his booger real quick and waved back.

That is not so awesome...

I do the wave of course, but it seems that when we are in the Liberty it's not reciprocated as much.

Go figure...

I guess some Jeepers still don't get it...I remember the first time my current S.O. was in the TJ with me and saw me wave at another Jeep...she asked me "Who was that?".

After I explained "The Jeep Wave" she laughed and thought it was weird that we wave just cuz it's a Jeep.

Wranglers get a automatic wave from me but I will wave to any other vehicle that waves to me first.

U all are KILLIN me here!!! Lol Here in Arizona, I wave to others in Wranglers that are tricked out/modified cuz I am proud of my ride and u can pretty much tell when someone else in a Wrangler is proud of theirs!! But......I dont quite get the wave thing when it comes to guys vs gals...the guys ALWAYS wave to me but the snooty ass chicks in other Jeeps just give that go to hell look and dont wave (I just smile and keep on keepin on!) Becuz of the chicks that act like a@@holes around here, screw it, I wave to the guys with SICK rides especially if they are HOT!!! hahahaha Maybe the chicks not waving and the guys that DO wave has something to do with all u see is a TON of blonde curly hair flying and a bright ass GREEN Jeep?????!!! hmmmmm By the way my so-called "wave" is 2 fingers over the steering wheel (index and mid finger like a peace sign sorta) or I will throw one out the side window if we r passing too quickly!! Dont hate me cuz u aint me!!! Until next time....wave to ur fellow Jeepers (IF they r cool too!!) hahahaha

Well, it took me some time but I got through all 176 of these posts.

I'm relatively new to jeepn'. Got my first 08 JK in October 07 and second one in August 08 and loved the both of em. I'm still working on my wave. My wave has to do with the response of the other jeeper and sometimes my mood and sometimes my experiences with the wave. Sometimes I try to see what type of wave results in a higher success rate with the other jeeper. I have found that the more visible wave gets a better response, five fingers up, a couple of quick jerks to the side. When I visited my sister in Ohio and traveled the backroads in the boonies where her house is I learned that the two fingers off of the wheel index and middle is the standard wave of the area and I've been experimenting with that one in the jeep. I usually use the two finger in response to a wave when the lighting is good on sunny days. My wave is more active when I'm in a good mood. I'm a deep thinker so sometimes I get distracted and don't get the first wave off. Occasionally I see a wave too late for me to respond. Occasionally I'm dealing with traffic or the stick (the one on the floor) and don't respond quick enough because the other jeeper spotted me before I spotted them. Sometimes it is dusk and the wave has been shut off due to insufficient light. But even when the light is low, when I think it is a jeep because of the light pattern I usually try and get a glimpse of the jeep. Ever since I got in my jeep for the first time I've felt like I'm in my second childhood. Had I known it was going to be this good, I would have bought one sooner.

In response to the parking thing, I always park next to a fellow jeeper if there is a space. It is a complement thing and is similar to a wave.

My vehicle is stock and I don't plan to mod it any time soon. I got a loaded Rubicon so it is going to take some time to be able to afford some serious mods. There is also the warranty thing. As it ages I will be more likely to do some serious surgery on it. The first one that I would like to do is a roof rack. Very useful. The one from body armor that is yet to hit the market looks very fine. Can't wait to see some posts about it on the forum.

I included this previous paragraph because it is important for modders to realize that just because a jeep hasn't been customized yet doesn't mean that the owner doesn't get the jeep thing yet. You can get very far down the road as a newbie jeep owner without realizing that something is very different from any other car you may have owned save maybe corvettes as I hear that the wave is alive with them too. I knew about the wave thing because the dealership educated me about it when I was in the process of closing the sale on my first.

I average about 50 to 70% response on the wave. It depends on the day. I always wave when I see another jeep in the lane closest to me in the opposite direction except divided highways. On divided highways they are just too far away to deal with the wave. So that is what I have to say about waving. What is your story?

The Jeep wave was huge when I lived in Massachusettes. but here in NYC people look at you like you're a nut job when you wave at them. They get me angry, maybe if they actually removed the doors off their rig and drop the top.... maybe if they hit some mud or just took their Jeep off onto the beach just once (instead of just using to to cart around groceries), they would see why we wave.

Just moved to NC from GA and my friend who has a Rubicon ALWAYS got waved at. Just got my 06 Wranger 2 months ago and hardly anyone waves down here. I tried 2 fingers, tried the whole hand, I was about to resort to tooting the horn. Thanks to this thread I see why no one waves, my Jeep is just stock. My buddy has his all lifted with all kinds of kool stuff on it. Maybe I should put a sign on it that says 'Mods to come'. Sheesh! lol

My wave:

Doors on, left hand wrapped around top of steering wheel, lift all five fingers & point em straight up, palm resting on wheel.

Doors off, down and out the drivers side, hand open.

Due to either distraction, divided road, etc, I wave 95% of the time and returns are 50-50. I have noticed very rarely any returned from Sahara owners. Especially JK's

Just got my '08 Wrangler Unlimited X and have been enjoying the whole wave thing. It gave my wife and friends a chuckle the first time they saw it too. At work we've also started a Jeep corner in the parking lotfor the 3 of us that have them.

LOL, I always wave from my YJ or CJ and get a lot back. It gets embarassing though when I'm on my 90 mile commute in my civic and I wave at a jacked up CJ
