i'm so happy i seen this! i'm new to the jeep lovers, got my baby about 2 months ago and pretty much have no idea what i'm doing yet =) but i was talking to some guy about it and he said, well, do you ever do the jeep wave? i had never heard of it and he was ridiculously sarcastic so i thought he was just pulling my leg.
i've never had anyone give me the jeep wave and there are plenty out here in calgary. I'll start waving! =)

+2 I wear suits occasionally too.

I'm brand new (my CG JKUR is less than a month old) - this is my first Jeep. But I wave at *everyone* I see. But then, I have friends with Jeeps who are educating me.

Even across the highway - which when passing a convoy of offroaders somewhere near Talledega National Forest this past weekend proved quite rewarding as everything single one waved back across five lanes of traffic.

I find it varies with area a lot. Around my hometown of Roswell, GA (a burb of Atlanta filled with parks, bikes and kayaks) I get a lot of waves back. Go one city north to Alpharetta where I work and yeah - unless it's lifted, probably not.

And I offroad fwiw - put a fresh coat of mud on and got my first ding this weekend.

+1 I love those drivers. Especially when the doors are off, I always lean out at least a little to wave when my doors are off. I consider it the "only a Jeeper can wave like this" wave.

Dissapointed in some Jeepers

So, I have noticed a lot lately, at least in my local area that JK drivers just don't plain wave back. Living in a military community, Jeeps are everywhere you look, CJs, YJs, TJs and JKs .. but I've noticed a trend between mall crawlers.

CJ, YJ and TJ drivers wave first or wave back every time .. but 9/10 JK drivers just stare at you. Anyone else noticed this trend?

Some guy in a nice jk flashed his lights @ me yesterday. It was raining and you couldn't see inside other vehicles very well so I assumed it was his version of a rainy day wave. my buddy who drives a stock jk was riding shotgun beside me and he was so confused about what just happened. "dude why did that guy flash his lights at you?! We've been driving for like 45 minutes and nobody else did! Did you have you high beams on or something?! Man that guy must of been having a bad day or something, what a dick." I smiled and laughed.

Had a real bad dust storm a while back and had a yellow TJ flash his lights at me. Kinda cool!

I will normally get a wave from those that have modded their Jeeps, the mostly stock ones, not so much.

When I wave around here, I get a wave back on occasion. They always looked confused though and probably wondering who I am.

Yea, I have definitely noticed .. those who have built and not bought, wave back. The soccer moms rolling around in the JK just look at me rather confused.

Funny you mention the light flash, I was driving home from post the other day, it was raining out so like you said hard to see the return wave. This guy driving a CJ flashed his fog lights (bumper and hood) at me instead of waving .. worked for me tho.

Just wanted to see if it was a trend elsewhere, because it drives me crazy!

I know I am probably going to get jumped for saying this.... I wave at every jeep that I can, and the built ones tend to not wave back. Yes, I am a JK, but it seems kind of snobish to not return the wave regardless of what you are driving. I understand not starting the wave, but not returning it?

And yes, there are a ton of JK's that do not wave, but I am not one of them.

I think it is something that should be told to every new jeep owner and then passed on to purchasers of used ones. Heck...they should include someting about the jeep lifestyle and community in their commercials.

Nothing new. I've had the LJ for about 1.5 months, wave at each JK I see, but never got a wave back from a JK until yesterday. A lot of JK owners just don't know what the Jeep community is all about. No one ever told them about the wave. So how can we help? Keep waving at every JK you see. Eventually, they'll ask someone why they keep getting waved at, or they'll Google it and find out about the Jeep wave. I've seen several JK drivers on this very forum that have stated they were never told about the wave, but after noticing several Jeep waves, they sought the power of Google and discovered what they had been missing. Jeepers won't know about the wave unless someone tells them. But how will they even know to ask unless they see people waving all the time and begin to wonder about it?

Keep on wavin', folks.

I don't wave back so that I can go on Wranglerforum and read a wave thread that the guy made because I didn't wave back.

Do people really never search for questions before they ask them.

There should be some kind of memo that comes with your Jeep purchase forcing you to read a couple of the threads on the forum first! Either way, I always wave when I see another Jeep, regardless of year and model, that's just part of the community, right?

And yes, I searched for it before I asked the question. Just something that comes up in conversation often with me and my Jeep buddies. Isn't that the point of the forum?
