I usually give the 2 finger lift from the stearing wheel. seems to be the wave here in NY. No one in JK's waves to me though. Maybe no one around here has started waving to them yet

A few waving stories. My wife and son evacuated to Lafayette Louisiana after Katrina to live while I stayed in New Orleans to run my business and watch our extended families properties. I bought a 05 TJ for the commute to visit on weekends. Not knowing about the wave at the time I was perplexed about all the college kids, mostly girls waving. Needless to say I would look in the mirror and say "yep the old boy still got it." My ego was deflated when I found out about the Jeep wave. Since then I have taken road trips all over the US and have gotten waves. But the one that stands out in my memory was coming down a mountain road in TENN. it was snowing and ice was on the road. I had a logging truck riding my a#* and I am driving white knuckles on the wheel. A nice lifted TJ passed me and waved but I couldn't wave back. So when I got into Gattlingburg I pulled into a lot, there was that same TJ. I parked right next to it
made an impression of my hand in the snow on his hood with an arrow pointing to my TJ. When I got back the other TJ was gone but there was a wave handprint in the snow on my hood. I thought that was pretty cool. Another time it was Mardi Gras and I was riding topless and doorless stopped at a redlight. A super pimped out Dodge Magnum pulled up next to me with super tinted windows. Its back window rolled down and a kid about 8 years old waved to me, so I waved back. He stuck his body out the window and sad hey bro how much you want for dat jeep. I look at him and smiled and said five hunned dollas. He smiled back held up a wad of money that would choke a horse, the light changed and I blew outta there.

Much like Scottrock,
Doors on: Hand gripping top of steering wheel, 4 fingers up .

Doors off: Hand down and out the door w/hand open

I'm through waving unless I get waved to first. Too many clueless daydreaming morons talking on their cell phones oblivious to what's going on around them.

I've been without a Jeep for a number of years and I've missed the comraderie of the wave...I ride motorcycles quite a bit so I'm still able to get my fix of hand gestures from strangers...and I've noticed people in FJ Cruisers are trying to get their own thing going...I get waves from those folks when I'm in my Toyota...but yesterday...I drove an hour and a half to pick up my new TJ in the northwest corner of CT...I made the transaction with the young gentleman, bolted on some plates, and started the trip home. During the ride home, no less than 11 Jeepers waved to me as we passed one another on the road...it felt good to be back in the fold. My mother, who drives a Wrangler herself, was stuck riding behind me in my Toyota and commented that she felt left out seeing so many folks waving to me and none to her. I like the wave ( :

I got my first wave ever in this country. I wasn't even in my jeep. I was riding shotgun in a friends 04 Rubi. The guy (who initiated the wave) was in a JK. I was so excited, I think I smacked my hand on something giving the return wave. I also waved at a TJ yesterday but didn't get a return wave. They just looked at me funny. That is the second jeep I've seen since I moved here, besides my coworker/friends Rubi.

Old habits die hard. Now that I'm tooling around in a XJ, I still wave at all the wranglers AND now cherokees, too!

Well that sucks. You were the one person I could always count on to have a smart comment about anything. You've let me down. At least I can count on you to post in the wrong thread. Except you haven't done that in a while. So........

here in ohio it seems vry similar...a ton of stock jeep and 4door jeeps runnin round...now i am a stocker due to the fact i sink most my xtra money into my quad but i still take mine on trails. it seems you wave at another jeepr and they have no clue...except when your rollin down the road in 45 degree weather with no top and no doors or ridin down the road covered in MUDD. i give credit to those that take them off road...but if you buy it for the immage and never take it off the paved path....DONT BUY ONE!!

Is there a reason why I don't get any waves? I am getting tired of waving & being the only one.Usually I am pretty dirty from wheelin in the mud, but it don't matter if I am clean either way -don't get a wave. Oh well maybe I should wave like this ?

you have no clue.. we also have a big delphi factory as well.. not to mention a 95% complete transmission plant that chrysler and mercedes was building called getrag.. (i was actually an apprentice working on it when i got laid off)

actually forbes listed us as the 3rd fastest dieing city in the U.S. hence im joining the military to get outta here

we got haynes international that makes aluminum and stainless steal (mainly for nasa though) and a place called endolex that makes metal too.. i remember when i was a kid we had about 4 other steal mills that all shut down and are just rusting away now

when my dad retired from chrysler at the beginning of the year, they laid off i wanna say over 1000 people.. and since november about 6000 people lost their jobs at all the chrysler/gm factories

coming from a town that has about 56k people

I agree with the NC jeep theory. I think it's something in the water!!! I have only had my jeep for about two weeks, but here's how I roll. If it's stock, I will do the Half wave by lifting two or three fingers while my hand is on the steering wheel. If it's a positive I have a jeep and i'm not afraid to use it, I will give a distinct wave at window level. It's kinda the same as bikers. Not too often you see a Custom Big Dog chopper wave at a Suzuki Crotch Rocket!
