As a new jeep owner I have recently experienced "The Wave", and I have to say that it's cool. It makes you feel like you are part of a special club. Now when I see a fellow Jeeper drive by, I give them a wave even if they don't wave back.

I think "The Wave" is sort of like the Pay It Back or a smile. They are contagious and people sometimes need that smile or that Pay It Bak because they were having a bad day and forget how fortunate they really are.

I wave and it seems 95% wave back.

What takes me by surprise is the non Jeep drivers that wave at me. I have people come along side of me and wave or give me a thumbs up that are driving all sorts of other vehicles. I also have people walking wave at me. It is the Gecko effect.

We have a Flame Red and a Gecko that are built exactly the same other than the color. The Gecko gets attention from non Jeepers where the Flame red hardly ever does.

The Gecko definitely gets attention.Get lots of thumbs up and the occasional window down hey thats cool .10 years of driving into work and getting stopped at the gate ask for name and now they wave me in they know that green Jeep is me.

Ha, just picked up a tj and noticed another tj looking at mine today and I creeped up and gave him a little head nod. It is a strange thing though... On a boat everyone waves, motorcycle-wave, my modded f-150 no waves, my modded 335i BMW 3 waves in 5 months. Who knows why, if I could guess its a true enthusiast thing. On the bike it can become kind of annoying, everything else it's pretty cool.

Back in the day there were far far less Jeeps as daily drivers so when you happened up on one you waved most all jeepers waved back when only CJ's roamed the earth crawling on their hands & knees across the tundra (back before there where Toyota tundras ) I regress

I used to be an avid biker and love the fact that no matter what, you always give the low hand wave to a fellow biker as you pass. I thought the Jeep community was just as close knit but no, we have a ton of Jeepers around here and I think they are the most stuck up folks I have ever seen. You people are nice as can be but the ones I pass on the street must have arthritis in they hands lol.

I wave at any wrangler, fixed up or stock, and will continue to do it even without the wave back lol

Way too many Jeeps on the road to wave to everyone. I reserve the wave for modded Jeeps.......

I always wave at people and most of the time I get a wave back. Sometimes I am not paying attention and a jeep drives past and I miss a wave or wave at the last second.

I actually got a thumbs up and a big smile by a guy in a small civic when there was a snow storm and i was going up a hill without any problems.

I wave at all Jeeps. This is my 4th Jeep ('13 JKU) and I don't get as many waves as I did in my TJ's or YJ. For me you are waving at the driver not the Jeep, so you get 2 chances to return my wave. After that I ignore you

Nah, you're waving at the Jeep.. its nice to see a wave back, but don't let the tradition die because the citified DD who doesn't know what a Jeep really is doesn't return a wave.

I always get more waves from every one even people in trucks and other cars and SUVs when my jeeps covered in mud. I always wave back or thumbs up or smile back. Also in the spring when everyone starts coming out topless more people wave back.

Topless always gets me more waves and there are always the guys in pick up trucks that stare me down when I pass by them topless. I'm assuming they're envious. I know I'd sure be! Can't wait until summer for 24/7 topless weather.
