Offroad went wrong

So today me and some friends decided to go offroading and for the first time ever it went all wrong. As I was coming up a hill I slammed the gas pedal thinking it was more to the hill and oh boy! As I flew like 3 seconds on the air I realized there was no sand to ride on and I ended up slamming the jeep front to the ground. At first I think it was okay but when I took out to pavement I noticed the front tires where inside out and when moving the jeep made cracking noises, I think I might end up messing up the front differential since its leaking oil and cause of the fact that the tires are looking inside out. I also noticed the hood looks asymmetrical to the whole body. Any suggestions on how much this might cost to repair? They also told me I could ended up messing the 4x4 as well..

Oh man that makes me nauseous. :puke:

I'm amazed it didn't bend the inner C's. That has to be one of the stoutest 30 front ends ever built. Most of the time they snap like a twig! Sucks, but I would have loved to been riding shotgun with you. What a ride!

Be careful out there.

You know, last weekend I was out wheeling and my buddies kept telling me to get some air. I think I may show them this to prove why its not a great idea.
But if your insurance doesn't total it definitely upgrade rather then replace if you got the cash. I don't think insurance covers off road accidents tho you'll have to come up with a story.

Yeap insurance wont cover any off roading damages.. my next option is take it to the mechanic and upgrade everything.. It's going to be a good time with no jeep but oh well it is worth it. As for the ride, sure it was one hell of it! I learned the lesson.. know the dunes first then hit the pedal when sure about it.

I saw the same happen to a friend's jk jumping off a dune. The result was similarly bad. The entire axle had to be replaced, plus the drive shaft, shocks, windshield, and some other front suspension parts I don't remember. It was thousands of dollars, but covered. With sharp dunes only hit it fast enough to get over without the bottom being stuck, and remember it's better to be stuck than to fly. High centered on a dune it's easy to dig out, just clear under the middle. Be especially. careful after the rains because the sand can become firm and you have to use much less gas. You will be back.

Thats good news... Ive seen people jump TJs pretty high (4-5 feet)on the Oregon dunes and they seem to survive. You must have really had some hang time! Wish I could have been there to shoot video for ya. Good luck man. Stay safe out there! I destroyed a bronco II jumping it when I was younger. Sure was fun.lol

Two questions if you can answer....

That kind of impact and no airbag deployment? If so then I can wheel with less worry about the possibility of it happening, I have kind of wondered from time to time about wheeling and airbag issues (not really a fear more like a wondering thought).

Your jeep was still able to drive you home after damage like that? If so that's some tuff vehicle and it's nice to know its capable.

To the OP, great news if its only the axle. Drive-break-fix-sell=learn. Its a Jeep.

To everyone else, not to make fun of the OP but I have not laughed that hard at some of the responses in a long time. I actually have tears in my eyes from some of those replies.

Hopefully you just repair the axle and keep your Jeep. It does suck you dont have a video. I wouldnt sell it afterwards because you bent an axle housing and bent the fenders. Use it as experience and move on. Some of the best Jeeps have seen action like yours. Your Jeep isnt damaged, its "seasoned".

On my first visit to some dunes I was going way to fast as I crested and caught some air. It was like everything went into slo-mo waiting to hit the ground that was coming up on me! I can imagine how you felt. Bike was OK I suffered a sprained ankle.
