Oil in Fenders affecting Paint Job

I want to paint my fenders. I have a 2009 Rubicon and the fenders and bumpers have started to fade. I have used Mothers Back to Black and similar products to no results. I did research and and I'm going to use Krylon Fusion. However I was told that because I had used an oil based cleaner on them that the oil was permanently in the plastic. So even with good cleaning paint would still chip and crack. is this true? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my 98 TJ a month ago and it's fenders were beat! I work at Lowe's and got my hands on the rustoleum trim paint. I grabbed a can of thinner. I removed all my trim, wiped it all down with the thinner, then used the trim paint by rustoleum. I did all of that within the first 3 days of having it. To this day it still looks great and I have person after person tell me how good it looks. Good luck.

Pull em off, scrub em with hot soapy water, dry em, then wipe down with wax and grease remover, or paint reducer. Then spray em, you should be fine.
